Fuel ventilation valve question

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/13907618652/

This is the item in question. The car is in storage over the winter and I start it once or twice a week. But prior to that I started to hear a ticking noise coming from the back side of the motor. Totally different ticking than what injectors make. Took a stethoscope and pin pointed it to this sucker being loud. Loud as in I have a exhaust, parked in a corner in my parking space, backed in and i can still hear it ticking. Now myself and few others have been having lpfs readings when idling or even upgrading to the S2 pump. What's the purpose of this little guy other than it lets gases escape from the tank.
