You either put something to block it, or get MHD and have it coded out. Idk how people have a problem with it.

BMS sells a kick down blocker if you don't go with MHD. Full throttle can be the pedal all the way to the floor resting against the kickdown but not engaging the it. Just practice with your car off.

^^^ Thanx I didn't know that you where WOT without the pedal all the way to the floor. I guess I thought the block behind the pedal was a gas saving thing like in my moms VW. Thanx for clearing that up.

Kickdown is handy in manual mode since it's the only way to quickly drop to the lowest possible gear. In auto mode however, it is completely stupid and does nothing other than slow you down and shake you up.

its nifty when you want to be in 3rd to pass someone but are in 6th, and like someone else said you will get used to it if you practice a bit with it

I have one of the BMS blockers as I found it difficult to not hit while drag racing. MHD is a new option to remove the functionality as already stated. You do have to keep in mind if you are in 6th and want to pass grab a paddle so you don't bog the engine.

Why wouldn't you just hit the paddle? If you are in manual mode you are using them anyway.

Swapping from 6 -> 3 on the paddles is clumsy, the transmission dosent handle it as quickly or smoothly as using the kickdown

So in manual mode your car will drop from 6th gear to 3rd gear just from hitting the kick down? Are you sure you aren't talking about drive or sport mode?

Yes,

I do have the alpina flash if that makes a difference but in the 6A, if you pull the paddle three times in quick succession it lags between the shifts and feets jittery, if your in Manual-6 and click the kickdown pedal itll execute all 3 shifts very quickly and smoothly giving you third gear and accelerating up, this is assuming your on the freeway cruising in Manual-6.

Normally I dont use the kickdown unless for whatever reason I want to go alot faster then really necessary, usually one downshift to 5th is sufficient to pass anyone on the freeway smoothly

I have the regular 2011 AT and when I pull the paddle three times in quick succession it ignores most of my pulls and throws me into some random gear, regardless of mode (manual, sport, auto). It does not count clicks -- I have to pull, wait for the gearchange to complete, then pull again and wait again,....

Flooring the pedal in auto/sport intelligently drops to the best possible gear.

Hitting the kickdown in any mode blindly drops it to the lowest possible gear, not the best. It might shift to a gear that's exactly at redline and then immediately have to shift again.

Ideally the kickdown should only work in manual mode and it should kick to the best gear, not the lowest. But apparently no one at BMW ever thought about it or actually drove the car.
