Thumbs up Wow!...Walnut Blast and Results

Just had it done at 75k miles and wow! I cannot believe the added power. They did not look THAT bad given pics I have seen on the interweb. Still, it was worth every penny of the $400.

Added power? It's maintenance, not a performance mod. You have gained good running engine and probably zero HP.

Well, right...regained lost performance and yes, no added power.

Where did you get this done for $400?

I've actually saw quite a few people who have done this and actually dyno'd, and the amount of power regained is sometimes very generous.. Definitely shouldn't skip out on getting this done..

Err... One of the primary benefits of doing this regularly is gaining back the power you lose to carbon buildup. A freer breathing engine = more power.

Curious, if a log is done before and after, how will this "improvement" show up in a log?

It's forced induction so little effect. I have seen dyno charts as well but none show the other variables. Also I commented on OP "added power" .

To draw an analogy here, it's like a 70 year old man suddenly having the running power that he had when he was 20 years old, thanks to the magic done by his cardio doctor

I got my e93 used and it has always had a bit of a hiccup or stumble when hitting the accelerator. Now, it takes off with no hesitation and it is great.

You think having clogged valves is no big deal with forced induction?

It would restore a good 15WHP or so depending on the severity. Throttle response, hesitations, ETC would all be gone as well. (assuming this was the only offending problem).

I believe a few guys did a dyno before and after. Obviously everyone will be different on the power restored but worth it for anyone past 50K miles I would imagine. I think 35K would be good maintenance though. I've been procrastinating on my own vehicle.

Clogged up valves? Anyhow, I'm not saying that is not big deal, but also I'm not saying that is a big deal either when comes to making power. The effect on how much power the engine makes is negligible in most cases. Look at the opposite spectrum: polishing the ports on forced induction for better flow yields very small gains. Power here depends mostly on the compressor map. Is more of a problem on DI non turbo when comes to making power.

They weren't trying to say OMG do a walnut blast, you'll get 100hp out of it. They just said their car was pulling a little harder and running better after the blast, which makes sense as the ports can get pretty gunked up and that definitely isn't going to make your car run at optimal output if it can't breathe 100% efficiently. We get that it is not a "mod" to actually increase the OE output...

Just had mine done as well. Also 400 bucks here. Also felt the car pulling harder.

I, too, experienced a TREMENDOUS power increase after a walnut blast. Night and day (the car ran well before) and the car sounded completely different afterwards too. I suspect mine were much dirtier than yours. $400 is a good price!

I wanted to do it myself. I just needed a few things - media blaster, the tool, gaskets, etc. I have the compressor and vac and hand tools. Adding up the cost it was not much more to have the dealer do it.

Won't you need to do it again after 30-40k miles or you don't think you'll keep the car that long?
