She's here and I'm smitten!

My first few days with the 340..

Active cruise seems to come in for a bit of flak on this forum, but I highly recommend it. It's a game changer in and around London. With the exception of a few rapid undertaking moments I've found it does what it should do, and it does it well. As full-time collision warning + braking is part of the deal, I'm really happy with it.

iDrive 5 and pro nav is a big step up from my 2014 1 series. Screens and animations are snappier and prettier, but the traffic info is still utter shyte and cannot be trusted. I've noticed a new 'learn routes' option. This could fix my other gripe that it favours A roads, over a quicker B road. Let's see..

HK is far better in the F30 than it was in my F20. I'm still playing with the equaliser and I know there are a few threads floating about on this, but yet to find my best settings. Might need to wait for the speakers to bed in a bit more first.

Road noise doesn't seem much better than the F20 which I'm disappointed about. I assume this is the Bridgestone RFT's. I'm going to have to do something about it so will do some research. I gather MPSS are the way forward?

I don't mean to bleat on about the engine but it's fantastic. I'm stating the obvious but it makes this a really special motor. Taking off down a slip road can be done quickly in many beemers, but the delivery and sound of the B58 puts a grin on my face like no other. It makes every trip an event and I realise I've missed that being wedded to diesel for a while. Yup, first tank averaged 22mpg so this is where the diesel heads will win, although to be fair that was mostly urban, with me gently playing.

Here's a few pics.. I'm thinking black grills?

Looks great....and another person raving about the engine!

Had expected you to get more than 22mpg out of it though?!?!??

Lovely motor. I can just echo others comments on the engine.

It really does get more frugal and louder, with more sport mode pops and crackles coming in in the over-run.

MPG wise it doesn't relish urban driving, I got 16mpg in my first week of very short trips. But, I routinely top 30mpg out of my relatively non-aero hearse. Mud to upper 30's on a run.

It loosens up with the miles and the MPG goes up, but so does the fun factor and noise... I bet you drop your windows much more than in your previous diesel...

Enjoy her, you've got a cracking car!

Looks fantastic

I had a 440i out yesterday for a try out 3k on the clock and it went like a rocket, pops & bangs from the exhaust, just wonderful. In my 70 miles of A,B & Motorway blasts and cruse it did 28mpg, impressed me... the engine not the Grand Coupe ! So with my limited knowledge can echo what they say above.

Cheers all its been a fun few days..

Black grills it is

I'm not too fussed about the mpg, I know it will improve with a careful drive and once it's loosened up.

Very nice. I like those particular alloys a lot on the 3-series but for some reason they suit the 4-series GC less well.

I agree that the new iDrive is nicer than the old iDrive I had in my 2012 M135i, but for one thing - I'm not totally sure that the brighter graphics are an improvement, especially in the 3D perspective setting.
