Weird problem today possibly related to jb4. Please help
Hi
I have a 6spd stock 335i running jb4 map 5. At one point on the way to work this morning i was trying to push it a little bit to pass some cars and it felt like the engine was revving but the clutch not engaging and it wasn't moving fast. So i backed off the throttle for a few seconds and then it shifted fine. About 20 minutes later on the highway i get a bunch of dash lights and its like my engine quit or the transmission felt like it wasnt connecting (sorry im not the best mechanic to describe things). I pulled over and shut if off. pushed start button and then it started but then died. Disabled jb4, waited 20 seconds, and it started and drove like nothing ever happened. I switched the jbe to map1 this time about 5 minutes after driving. Still no problems but only drove it another 15 minutes after it died. Anyone else have this issue? Is JB4 map 5 known to cause problems? Should i be running Map 1 instead since i have no additional mods? Thanks guys Last edited by Wksk; 12-05-2016 at 07:55 PM.. |

I don't think the JB4 is at fault here but maybe you should check the connections on it. Sounds like a loose wire more then anything. Are you manual or automatic? |

I have a stock manual (other than jb4). I also have FF wires attached but i have never run e85. I also run 93 octane fuel always. I hooked my laptop to the unit and i got error code 2c90 I bought this unit 2nd hand so maybe my settings are not right? When i first got it in i cut the diode and upgraded to ISO firwmare, but im not sure that resets settings that might have been left over. 5 minutes ago I went to the n55 iso upgrade page and put in the values i saw in the picture although im not 100% sure thats right. I have attached a picture of the new settings i just changed. Before i just changed the settings just now the fuel open loop was on 0 and max boot 3rd was on 1.0. i also had 80 on default wastegate instead of being on FF. Can you look at this picture and let me know if these settings look good? Any recommendations? Thanks! |

Change that TMap setting to 0 and save and double check what map you are in and switch to map 1. It may have auto protected you and kicked you to map 4 since you had other settings messed up

Also, I have switched maps periodically over the past few months between 1 and 5 (mainly using map 5 90% of the time) and never caught it in map 4. I also drove an hour trip to Daytona over the weekend and maintained over 80 both ways with no issues. |

I changed my jb4 to those settings you recommended and switched to map 1 for my commute. Both ways it was fine about 1 hour 10 minutes. I took some logs and will post them if you can make sense of them.
After i got home i went back out to the store and limp mode happened again when i was in 3rd or 4th and barely going but pushing the throttle. So i restart it and its fine. turn jb4 off. I push it a little hard in 3rd and then it kicks into map 4 like you were referring to. I turned off the jb4 again and it reverted to map 4 again. I just drove home slower than normal. Unfortunately i was not logging when all these issues happened. It seems to be getting worse, not sure if its from the settings i changed it to or what. Any other suggestions? |

No, the clutch feel that way. I have had instances where ive been gunning it and it does feel that way, but thats only happened twice and could probably be chalked up to shitty driving.
I reflashed the 2nd to newest iso hex firmware for the jb4 and just copied all settings straight from the picture in the iso update forum. I put back on map 1 this morning and drove to work just fine, pushing WOT a few times. Will right an update if i see any more issues after this. |

So far so good today. Went WOT a few times on the way to work. After i stopped at the next red light i was just chuckling to myself. What a rush.
So far I am chalking my issues up to non proper configured jb4 and i also bought gas from a my non usual station so might have been shitty and caused misfires? No codes like 2c90 have reppeared. Ill keep pushing it here and there over the next week and report back if i have any other issues. |

Just an update,
The problems continued sporadically until it went into full service engine soon mode, even after restart. I yanked the jb4 last week and made an appointment at bmw for tomorrow. After removing the jb4 the engine lights went away and i drove 4 hours both ways from Orlando to Savannah ga and didnt have 1 issue at all. I sent BMS my error codes and they seem to think its wire or connection related. I'll report back tomorrow after i get it checked out at bmw. If they pass it then i will double check all wires on the jb4 and try again. |

LOL, not that anyone cares but update on my car
Took out the jb4 before Christmas and drove it for an 8 hour trip with no problems. when i got back took it bmw. they found code 28A0 and there was an SIB for it. They tried to update my CAS and bricked it. Had to order a new one and some other module because they couldn't get the new CAS to work with my existing system or something. While it was in the shop for a week i sent the jb4 to Terry at Burger. He said everything seemed fine but he said my cables are pretty old and may have issues. He gave me a good rate on a new set which also is a newer revision. The new cables are mesh wrapped, thinner, and have flex fuel in them. Very happy with them over the plastic wrapped older ones. Installed tonight and took it out. Ahhhhh, i miss the kick in the ass the 335i makes with the jb4. |

I was reading on that the other week and really want to combine it with jb4 however I am still under factory warranty and then CPO. Also I have a 2013 which I think need some ECU pre work before I can flash it if I am not mistaken. ( I hope I am)
