MHD & Aplina B3 Tranny Flash

Guys,

Have a questions regarding MHD Tuning Flash.... Currently have Cobb with Alpina B3 Tranny. I plan to switch to MHD Tuning Flash and my question is, can I straight install the MHD Tune Flash with the Alpina B3 Tranny Flash already installed OR do I have to in-install the Alpina B3 Tranny Flash, then install the MHD Tune Flash, and lastly re-flash the Alpina B3 Tranny Flash?

Is there a particular sequence for this type of flashes regarding MHD and Alpina B3 Tranny Flash being installed?

Any input would be great!

Thanks

Yes, you can install mhd with alpina flash. There is a sequence that will ask if you have standard AT or if it has the alpina flash.

From what I've read it makes no difference on performance or anything whether you select Alpina flash or not.

Mhd and the alpine flash work great together, when I had my giac flash , Rpms would oscillate at high torque loads due to the ecu limiting torque, but tcu allowing more.

Mhd increases torque limits on at with giac flash, so technically you do get a little more performance!

To the OP, yes you can install MHD while the Alpina flash is already installed. Just make sure to uninstall the Cobb first, obviously.

Regarding the MHD option, I've tried both with and without the Alpina option and didn't notice any differences. Drive mode sucks ass either way.

First of all ECU (engine) und TCU (transmission) are completly seperate as for manipulating them, so basically you can run Alpina or stock TCU-Flash with every ECU flash (Cobb, MHD, GIAC, ...).

The Alpina flash allows higher torque-limts, so the transmission does not cut power as it does with the the stock flash.

The downside is, that in normal "D" mode the shiftpoint are kind of weird, because die Alpina TCU flash expects the Alpins ECU flash with different throttle settings than stock. Therefore you have to adjust the throttle to smooth that out.

Is that what MHD does?

There is a thread on BB discussing that topic:
http://www.***********.com/showthrea...944#post684944

Did anybody apply those pedal/throttle tables of the Alpina TCU within MHD?

He may have read it from me. I have a custom map and therefore I can't "SELECT" Alpina during the flash process. Only OTS maps can select it from what I understand.

If you have the option and have the flash, you mine as well check the box though.

It doesn't seem to affect anything from what I can tell.

Maybe I'm missing something? I'd be happy to learn something new on it.

When do the Alpina B3's higher torque limits come into play?
When would the stock calibration be limiting torque?

Is this during shifts only? Or anytime a specific torque threshold is exceeded? Anyone know what those limits/thresholds are?

The MHD maps that specify for Alpina flashes are much smoother than the MHD maps that specify for standard flashes. So even if you have the Alpina flash and you flash the MHD map specified to standard flash, it wont be as smooth as the MHD map specified to the Alpina flash.

Wedge care to chime in on this?

Has this actually been verified with experience?

Most of the smoothness after my Alpina Flash came back when I reset the transmission adaptations. I can go from 1 to 6th gear and you can't even feel the car shift in D mode. Not sure how much smoother it can get.

lol no secret sauce. The only difference is the torque values being reported.

If your current tuner isn't able to effectively modify the tables, find a new tuner.

IDK how Wedge would take that kind of remark. (For all I know he modified them and didn't tell me).

That seems to be what Ken is saying also.....see this linked post by Ken about a simple torque table axis change which reports a higher or lower torque calculation to the DME - depending upon whether you have Alpina flash or not.
