G30 Online Entertainment: Spotify?

So, just ordered by G30 M Sport... delivery dates awaited to UK.

I see that the Online Entertainment has Deezer and/or Napster free subscription for a year built in. I ordered this option, but my question is: where is Spotify ??!

I am sure it will have Spotify Streaming from your Smartphone as per the recent F10's, but I don't want to get two music services

The online entertainment downloads to the 20GB disk/streams via a SIM card I read... let's hope Spotify has been added in due course !

Bump... anyone have a G30 yet and can verify this... does Spotify and Deezer co-exist?

I will keep Spotify as I have a family account... will I need my smartphone for Spotify, or does it stream over the vehicle SIM ?

I believe it's under Online Entertainment (if you ordered that option as I have).. or it may be under media/bluetooth...?

I do recall an old F10 post showing pictures of integration to Navigation Professional... but it needed the smartphone... I just want to see if I can do it without a smartphone

Do you have a Spotify account to test?

So I have the car, but teh Spotify Integration is pretty basic...

- No album art
- Can't choose playlists, you have to have Spotify running on your phone first, and you can only go forward or back
- It does show you song name, album name and artist though...

Let's hope an update makes it a richer experience like the Deezer app which is full on!

I have a demo car for the weekend and was playing with Spotify last night. If you check the Applications setting check box on the phone setup page, you'll get a separate Spotify option on the media page. It gives you album art, the options to toggle Repeat and/or Shuffle, go to Browse and My Music though this didn't work for me on my first try... Will have to play with it some more today.

If you don't check the Applications check box, you only get what you described (names and the option to rewind or switch to the next track).

I just came back from a 30 minute drive. Spotify now works as expected, I can browse my Music collection via iDrive. I did have a problem with switching to a next track though - the head up display just shown Loading... and didn't allow me to switch to the next track using the steering wheel buttons. Only through iDrive... I will test some more tonight.

So how does the car connect to the net? Does it use the phone data connection?

I believe it does use the phone data as you need to enable Apps in the phone setting.

I did this, enabled APPS checkbox... still no difference

Are you opening Spotify on iDrive (is it listed iDrive as a media option) ?

Ordo you still start spotify on your mobile (and if yes, do you have BMW Connected app running ?

Car is back with the dealer now. I did see Spotify as one of the options in the media menu (button next to the iDrive controller). I may have started Spotify on my phone first. I didn't have the BMW Connected app until the last day so it's not needed for Spotify.

So I have solved the mystery....

I have an old iPhone and tested that... no BMW Connected Drive APP installed..

Connect with Bluetooth, start Spotify, wait a second or two, and a Spotify Option now appears in the list of Media entries with the green logo....

I could see playlists and all my usual data...

Android+Spotify is the problem... I gather this is not a new issue, been there for ages... (Android only shows song title, and allows forward/back control... no Album Art, no playlists, nothing else, POS)

Hi mate thats pants like. i was hoping to get spotify to work with my Android.

As you said i have heard once its only plugged in you get the green logo and can get all your playlists etc.

The only other way it through blutooth which doesnt give you much.

You would have thought BMW would have sorted this by now

Yes... my hope is that Spotify gets added to the possible online entertainment options (Like Napster and Deezer) in future, then this problem disappears...

I have since bought a second-hand iPod touch, and all good now

Not a thick question at all... you can either tether* or use Bluetooth....

I have WiFi in the car and at home and download playlists to the iPod device or listen on-the-fly. It keeps permanently charged in the centre console compartment... my home wifi is actually very strong, so it syncs when the car is parked.... I keep playlists up to date on my home PC remotely

*You get a warning if you try and tether more than one device, i.e. USB stick or iPod touch, can't have both...

I have then added Spotify as my shortcut button #2 on the dashboard... works great... and can swap playlists and songs with iDrive

Ok mate thanks i couldnt get it to work on my F10 but i have read that spotify should work with 2016 onwards 7 seriese

As most of the tech has come from the 7 you would think it would work right.

That was on the spotify site too, so they are working on it but not hard enough.

I dont know what to do, just to get the ipod to sit in the car all the time and play the tunes off that and update it over the net.

OR simply just wait try my Android phone out by plugging it in, if it works great if not then get it ...

Not sure what to do???

I got my Android phone to work in my F10 and G30, but the functionality is basic: back/forward and also no artwork... and no playlist selection, no song list....

Same result over bluetooth or tethered by the way...

Yes indeed, but the iPod touch is a far better experience

I just got a 2nd hand one on eBay for £85 32GB series 6, but you can even get series 4 or 5 and it will work
