Which wheels faster?

I heard a point that smaller diameter means faster acceleration.
And I even felt this then changed my winter 16s by summer 17s on the previous car.
Any specialist comment please?
Thanks.

I think it just depends on how much the wheel weighs. Less wheel weight = less unsprung mass which I think for each pound, multiply it by 4 and that would be the sprung weight.

A larger diameter tends to translate to a heavier wheel but the important aspect of a wheel in terms of acceleration performance is overall weight. This is why we suggest going with forged wheels in the 19-20" range so you can increase the size of the wheel without sacrificing too much in the way of weight.

Some options we have had success with are the Vorsteiner 3 piece series, Enkreuz, DPE and HRE.

its all about weight. and where the wieght is, Accelration has nothing to do with unsprung wt., thats for handling. but for LW tires/wheels you get a double benifit.

for accelereation you want the lightest wheel and tire combo, and also you want the center of mass of the tire / wheel compo to be as close to the hub as possible.
