buying advice
Hi guys, Im looking forward to next year when I upgrade from E92 LCI 320D to F32 3.0D.
Im not sure whether to aim for xdrive here : Also another option is going back to petrol, F33 428i considering the mileage I do per year. Only thing putting me off is that it is a 4 cylinder. All advice will be much appreciated |

I went from an E92 2012 320D to an F32 435d XDrive. As much as I loved my E92, I havent look back with my new purchase. Can't fault it and the amount of grunt xDrive in combo with the 3.0 twin turbo straight six is phenomenal. 40-42mpg. When I had my E92 320D, I always used to yearn for something with more poke. With mine now, its big cheesy grins all the time

As Brigand says you are not going to get a new 6 cylinder BMW 3 series for anywhere near £24k. Even if you go for nearly new, the discounts on new cars are driving prices down towards the dealers used car inflated prices. I am getting £10,000 off a new factory order 330D xdrive but still otr price £32,000. You might get a 3 year old 335D for around £24k if you drive a hard bargain. Mine (nearly 3 years old) is going in to the dealers In Newcastle in 3 weeks time and will probably be priced at circa £23 because I wasnt too bothered about screwing down to an exceptional part ex having got a 20% discount already. Its nearly out of warranty however which is always a worry with BMWs. Coopers have a "Black Friday " stock sale at the moment but you would still be looking at £32,000 if you saw what you wanted in the way of a 6 cylinder model. You might just get an an Audi A3 2.0 tfsi quattro saloon for £28,000 new and a £3,500 discount, a fine but smallish saloon (0-60 in 6.2 secs) that I might have gone for but my wife found the driving position uncomfortable (she's only 5 ft 1 inch.) and we are happy with the 3 litre diesel F30. Sorry but other than to pass the hat round, I can't think of other options. Good hunting. TT |

Thank you all for your inputs. I think Im a bit misunderstood here, so will try to explain again.
Im considering 4 series only. Coupe or convertible. If coupe than it would be 430D. Im not sure whether to get one with x drive. There are a few on AT listed with prices below 24k, manufacturer approved with 40k on the clock decently optioned. Another option is convertible, 428i. This would be the logic choice considering my mileage per year. I could get one for 24k. The only thing that puts me off a it that it is a 4 cylinder but I could live with it I guess. So what would be your choice guys? |

If you going for a vert, forget a soot chucker. The 428i should sound pretty good out the back and as the convertible isn't dynamically as sharp as the coupe. Hooning it shouldn't be a priority.

i was at a dealers today who said prices would rise by 3% in January.
I believe bmw price rises are normally in January, but the usual question is, by how much? They also said, it wouldn't affect orders placed before the rise is announced.

For the vert I'd go petrol, for coupe I'd go 6 pot diesel.

I bought a 430d last week for £22400 and it was a 64 plate with 17k miles. So your budget is perfectly adequate.
I have absolutely no idea why you would want an x drive though? Carrying around a load of extra weight with more understeer doesn't sound like fun to me...... |

decision made, Im searching for a 428i vert, loaded with options. Im vorried about dpf problems with short journeys I make nowdays, plus the sound of petrol appeals much more to me.
Just need to find one below 24k , bmw approved used car |
