JB4 or AA

I'm considering of getting a JB4 but also wondering if AA can be the other option. What do you think?

I'm also torn between the two. AA seems to make a little more power and torque right out of the box compared to the jb4 from what I've seen. But I like that the jb4 has 7 different maps (not that all of them are available yet). It seems like the jb4 has more room for customization, for lack of a better word.

They're capable of the same dme-lying to achieve the same output, my personal opinion is the AA is expensive considering it has no other feature except lying about sensor outputs.

JB4 will reach their output no problem and can do a lot more for less $.

I've had my jb4 on my 340 since 300 miles. No complains , easy to update , can read and delete codes . The app is a great feature you can data log and send it right to Terry from Bms , normally responds within a few ours . Great customer service !!

Both really good options

If you are planning on adding downpipe, upgraded turbos, methanol then it is the Jb4 for sure

If you plan on keeping your car stock, it is a very tough decision to make.
A8 has a very nice power curve and torque in the midrange, JB4 has lot more features and more maps to come. They just released a more aggressive map as well

We do 14 days money back guarantee on both if you would like to test them and choose the one you like more

Are you planning on modding the car further? Or just doing tune only?

Intake can be used with both tunes

If I'm planning on doing a downpipe and intake, which would be my better option?

Jb4 will be a better option in this case

The cost isn't really that different.

Personally, (and I drove someone's car with BMS intake and JB4 map1 - no downpipe) I prefer my AA tune with stock intake (removed sponge and charcoal stripe) - no downpipe yet either. It pulls much stronger, easier to install and remove, and a great daily driver (already clocked 800 mi). I am planning to add the downpipe after winter and stick with AA. I wish the unit had the datalogging capability as JB4, however its fine as is to me since I wont add any more mods (after downpipe)..yet Ive seen AA hp/tq per rpm power increase, afr, boost and overall power curve.

Unless JB4 release much stronger maps (map2 is still weak as I read) on pump 93 gas and safe AFR, I dont see the point of JB4 over AA (cost difference is insignificant).. Datalogging is important when going crazy with mods.. which is not the case here..

AA tune is a really good option for this car.

Keep in mind you will get a code with downpipe with AA tune, JB4 hides it + other features for the JB4 (code reading, datalogging, boost by gear, Boost by RPM,etc...)

I dont think one tune is better than the other, it comes down to what user is looking for

Just installed JB4, the logging, fault deletes and price make it the choice for me... AA is more and less functional, Terry can adjust the mappings with firmware on the JB4 whenever he sees fit and since they hack the same sensors on the engine I chose the one with an upgrade path.

Jb4 has deffinetly more room to grow. My biggest worry was the fact that the b58 is a new platform and if a serious engine failure occurs the car hasn't been flashed. I don't think they would blame anything on a tune but with my luck lately I didn't want take the chance. I'm not looking to break any records, just want more power with reliability. Don't feel the need to squeeze every possible bit out. As long as it continues performing stock like with the added power I'll be very happy. Can't go wrong wth either one but I do suggest AA tune if you want to set it and forget it.......

For those under warranty this is important: The JB4 can read/delete hidden tuner fault codes. Also worth noting the JB4 offers boost by gear, boost mapped on gas pedal input and mode selections, in dash boost gauge, and much more. It also offers the flexibility to add on an EWG connector and flex fuel connector down the road. On top of that it's priced very well and includes frequent software updates for continuous improvement which are always free. (Free download)

So the jb4 doesn't flash the car?

If you're concerned about warranty it may be a good idea to avoid clearing codes repeatedly. The car's flash memory stores a count for how many times codes have been cleared. We've had a customer come in with a denied warranty claim because his car had a memory showing that codes had been cleared thousands of times (indicating the use of a piggyback).

If your concerned about warranty don't tune at all but I know flashed tunes can be seen if you look hard enough. I've seen a ton of tuned beemers come through the place I worked for and they didn't really care until......it needed a motor. But the car looked obviously modified. i dont know every detail but I know a engineer from NJ flew in and after some diggin on his laptop he found enough evidence to bounce the claim.

JB4 does not flash the ECU. The DME also does not store how many times codes have been deleted. I've never heard of anyone having a warranty issue from deleting faults but heard of plenty who did not delete faults and had issuesl. YMMV.

Since the Jb4 doesn't flash, it's a piggy back like the AA but with more features. Either way, whatever the op chooses he will be super happy.

I don't think the dme stores how many times the faults were cleared as the isid cleared faults automatically after performing some test plans and ista-p after programing as well. I do know it stores how many times modules were programmed and some store how many times adaptations were cleared. But anything is possible. A German engineer I met at Bmw training told me that they can see much much more than we could as techs.
