im wondering if u guys think my cars burning oil too much. i understand cars burn a lil oil.. but the oil gauge was at the max level in september when i got the car from a small dealerahip. now its half way between the min and max level. and ive noticed an oily black soot all over the trunk lid near the license plate that collects pretty quickly (in the pic its about a week since i washed it)

is this normal? its a 2011 335xi. n55

How many miles have you driven since September?

Also, with these motors, its more likely that its an oil leak, not burning oil. Check the oil pan, oil filter housing gasket, and valve cover gasket. The black stuff on your trunk is probably soot from the DI system.

thanks for the reply man. i was beginning to think there was no more Xi owners on the forums or something lol.

i will post it on the N55 section, i didnt kno whether it was Xi specific or not. but i beginning to think it isnt.

yea i did notice a lil bit of "wet" oil around the engine suggesting theres a leak somewhere. i need to find it, hopefully its just a gasket or something simple.

ive driven it about 3000 miles, its been normal wear, i work like 10 miles away from home.. i live in LA and the freeway traffic sux gigantic monkey balls but i havent been smashing hard or anything like that.
