How The Hell Is The Dashboard Attached?
E92 335i.
How is the top dash pad attached? It's creaking like crazy on the passenger side and if I push on it just a bit, I can hear it sort of popping/creaking. Is there anything I can tighten or jam between a seam to stop it moving? |

Assuming you are talking about the dash board itself I have attached a manual for removing the dash board. Page 35 of 58 describes how the dash in bolted in. Tightening these bolts might fix the problem, but theres a heap of stuff to remove to get to them.... |

OK, I've isolated it to JUST the back strip where the vents that shoot on the windshield. It's not the vents creaking, it's the black dashboard strip closest to the windshield and ONLY on the right side. If I press any point on that roughly 2 foot strip of black dash, it creaks.
Does anyone know if there are some clips or something underneath that it's not fully seated? |

This issue has come up before, where guys had the creek coming form the area where dashboard meets windshield.
I hear it myself on my car sometimes as the chassis flexes while pulling onto a driveway. I cant recall exact details, but from what I do remember there are some solutions. Browse through the forum a bit, and search for this dashboard creek and you'll find it. I semi fixed it. I'd say it's 80% better.
I went to Home Depot and bought a $4 piece of rubber insulation for like a copper pipe outside for an A/C unit. I cut it down and jammed 3-4 long strips into the space between the dash and windshield. It's black and goes down pretty deep so it's invisible from the outside and barely visible from the inside. It kind of "tightened" things up. I'm not really sure if there is a long term impact. I have no idea what's between the dash and the windshield, so hopefully it doesn't mess anything up. |
