One angel eye not working.

Lights were working this morning, but when I came back to it this afternoon I got this warning message.

I've been told a few things that it could be ranging from the misting inside the HL unit or possibly a module.

Could I connect the car to a fault reader and try to diagnose the fault from there?

Looks like the module that controls those functions got moisture inside of it. These modules are sealed to the external, but they are open to the inside of the lamp assembly.

Good news for you is that it looks like you have the base headlights, so its going to be a much cheaper repair. The module will need to be coded however, so even if you can handle swapping it yourself (its easy) you'll have to find a shop with ISTA-P to assist you in coding it.

Yeah the bulb were changed a while ago by Halfords (just because I couldn't be bothered)

Will have a look tomorrow to see if they have replaced the seal properly or not.

they probably didn't install it correctly or lock it into place?

This is exactly what went wrong with mine. I have Xenon though.
I replaced the module. (It's NOT EASY) Although its accessible via the front wheel well, you will find the car frame won't allow to easy removal. You will have to end up removing the front bumper to remove the module.
I ended up taking my car to a body shop for this work. Then the new module didn't work and I had to then take the car to the dealer. Overall, a pain and somewhat expensive to fix.

My was damaged by water. Apparently water was getting into my headlight. I've had to deal with this for over a year now.
Good luck!!

This is the unit this morning

Do the headlights have some kind of seal around the plastic, just want to cover all angles before I go back to the shop.

Same happened to me, headlight got moisture, dealer wouldn't do anything about it (had factory warranty remaining). Also said the moisture caused rust on the connectors, my SA said to buy a used headlight off ebay, and he got the "other' aftermarket warranty I had to cover all the electronics on the backside that were rusty. He billed them $2100 for 3 modules, I paid $600 for a used headlight off Ebay.

Good luck buddy

Why would dealer not help if the car had warranty?

I would guess because the dealer or an authorized BMW repair shop did not do the work.
