How to replace mirror caps

Removed the mirror caps without tools and installed a pair of CF ///M style ones. Looks good to me
Got them from here: http://bit.ly/2fWzgAS

Sounded bad but I was told this method (pulling out the cap sharply) would work and decided to give it a try.

Either that or stupid... But incidentally this time I was assured, by I friend who did this more than 100 times (he says), that this would not break the caps.

Anyway, they look good!

After having these installed for a few days, I honestly do not understand how BMW did not include this at least as an aftermarket OEM part. It transforms the car from many angles and makes it look quite a bit better imho.

Can anyone comment on the LED built into the mirror... If one wanted to removed and frost the clear piece is that glued in or fastened another way?

OP, I got a pair of m performance CF mirror cap but I lost the screws and washers that come with it. Am I still able to install it using old screws from stock mirror cap?

I have no ideia about which screws you mean. My caps didn't bring any screws or washers and you most certainly do not need to remove any when removing the original caps.

That's different to what mine looked like and the oem ones I took off. They all had clips which clip into the mirror. Much like in this photo you can see the extended bits with triangle shape clips.

How come it says F20/F30 on the covers? It appears they may attach differently to the F22/F87 ones.

Yeah, that's strange... The clips on mine looked exactly like the originals.

They are the same part # 51162211904/51162211905, according to BMW OEM.

I bought it from ECStuning.

I'm having the same issue. I bought the OEM CF mirror caps, but they don't have clips, instead have screws.

Getting the existing mirror caps off was simple, but does it require removal of the mirror to put on the carbon fiber oem caps in order to screw them in? If so, that is quite unfortunate. They should have just used clips.

To follow-up to my own post, you do have to pop off the mirror. It is quite easy. Just use a pry tool to get enough of a gap to get your fingers underneath then work your way around.

After you do that, you put the caps on and screw them in with the washers from the inside, then pop the mirror back into place.
