340 chargepipe

No not another thread about whether we need one. I came across this today and was just wondering if anyone else saw this.

Ftp is an eBay "brand". Some have had luck, some haven't. When is ER releasing theirs?

Is stock b58 CP a restriction / weak link ?

If not seems like a potentially unnecessary upgrade....

All stock charge pipes are weak links. They're plastic and prone to cracking even with stock boost

So how long usually does the little plastic chargepipe last before it goes boom?
2 years? 5?

Could be a week, could be forever. Is your piece of mind worth ~$300?

Is n20/26 CP a more prolific failure than n55 ?

Well there must be signs.. no? ..maybe regularly inspecting the connection for cracking/wear?
From the pictures online it looks to fail on the connector.. maybe alil more reinforcement there would help? silicone tape?

From being on the boards for the last few years there's no way to tell. It's like a heart attack, you can check your arteries every day but that one cheeseburger is gonna say "Oh no you di'nt" and explode. It's a piece of plastic pushing potentially 16-17psi, it could break at any time.

The B58 has 3 bolts that connect it to the throttle body instead of a clip like the older N54/55 engines. It also has a flexible coupler not far from it, and with the lack of a chassis-mounted front intercooler it is routed directly from the turbo to the throttle body. So when the engine torques and moves, the entire assembly moves together. The N54/55 charge pipe connected an intercooler that was fixed to the chassis to the engine, so with stock motor mounts it would flex it as the engine torqued over. I can't say for sure but I don't think there will be as many charge pipe failures with the B58.

I'd read the same elsewhere hence my query in an earlier post in this thread

+1

Sounds like a waste of money to me.

Agree with the above, the engine pushes over a bar of boost stock.
