F90 M5 Render project!

Hi All.

Now that we finally have the official pics of the new G30 5 series, I can start my new little fun project: try to render the upcoming M5 as closely as possible based on spy pictures and hopefully with the guidance of BMW insiders and fellow Bimmerpost members...

As some of you may know, I have done a couple of render works on Bimmerpost before. One for a hypothetical M2 Gran Coupe here: http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1275460 and of the G30 5 series here: http://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1251326.

I have to admit I had a lot of fun with both projects even though they took me a lot of time to do since I'm not very experienced with such Photoshop works. I have however learned a lot and also enjoyed interacting with the Bimmerpost community and created models based on members requests.

I hope the M5 render project will be as fun to do!

I will start with a press picture of the new 5 series M Sport and modify it accordingly. I have not used the press picture of the M550i X drive for the reason it's an indoors shot and is too much processed. I like outdoors views of cars better.

Here's my first few pics: the original BMW press picture and the 1st mod with bigger wheel and tire sizes and a lowering of the car (with animated gif to show the difference)

Any comments and suggestions are of course welcome and... more to come of course ;-)

My renders will be completely based on what we deduct from the spy pictures.

Looks good I hope the hockey stick is gone from it. I am sure the side vents will change probably like the M4 since the X5/5 M has them.

I believe that is the part where the M5 will considerably differ from the regular 5 series, as well as the front bumper. That's why this part is completely camouflaged in the prototype...

Snag those leaked Catia images and keep them for yourself before BMW goes apeshit over the leak. Big heads are going to roll over this one.

Thanks for that! I was pretty confident the front bumper would look like this based on the spy pictures... I wish there were images of the front quarter panel which is going to be speculative work...

That is the M5 in the leaked images.
The M5 removes the Air Breather for a more typical as per E60 and F10 upper intake.

Thanks Scott. I speculated that, based on the spy pics of the M5 having no air breather holes in the camouflage. I am pretty sure that there is an air vent on the side of the front bumper too...

If BMW can afford ditching the air breather which is officially supposed to effectively improve the aero therefore consumption / emissions, and instead keep the usual and purely esthetical M vent on the upper front wing, possibly just because putting both would look too redundant, then one may wonder just how technically useful the air breather really is?

Why not leave the air breather but paint it body color so as to make it much less distinguishable than the M vent?

The M5 vent serves a different purpose. They are to extract heat from the engine compartment where as the non-m air breather creates a low pressure area that smooths out and channels away the turbulence from the front wheel well, reducing drag (by a not insignificant amount).

M5 2nd draft.

Hi All.

Thanks to the leaked CAD images and after a little bit of work... Here she is!

I think the F90 M5 will have a sleek and subtle "sleeper" look, which I like!

Work done:
1- Entire front bumper with new air intakes, front spoiler etc based on the CAD drawing.
2- Wheel and tire sizes increase
3- Lowering of the car
4- M6 competition satin black wheels + CCB
5- Carbon fiber roof (with double curve)
5- Black shadowing of kidney grill and side window trim
6- M5 badge

Still to be done:
1- Front 1/4 panel remodelling (removal of air curtain) with M side air vent.
2- M Mirrors.
3- Wheelarches extension?
4- etc...

I'm pretty happy with the result... What do you guys think?

Cheers!

Pretty much the final version with:

1- Removing of "air curtain"
2- F10 M5 side marker and air vent (which fits pretty nicely by the way)
3- Darker tint of the windshield and windows
4- M-mirrors (new shape based on the spy shots)
5- Wider front and rear tires.

I like how the car will turn out: a little bit more agressive than the G30 5 series, but in a subtle and classy way IMO. I think the removal of the so called "air curtain" blade whilst leaving the air vent makes the side of the car look cleaner.

Hope you all like it!

I will be showing different body colours in the next few days...

Cheers!

Much faster with big portions of the guess work removed hehe.

There's stilll a significant amount of details to be taken from these photos sets:

http://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1144727

The wheels don't need to be larger than the G30 base reference. They're already 20" and the M5 will max out the same. I'd scale back the emphasis of the flare behind the arch and add more to the front. The 3D scan of the front is in ortho view so it's kinda punched out too much in the center. There's quite a bit of depth to the intakes and the center has some chin to it. Really good so far though as always.

I would do the render on the actual M5 prototype photographs so you have an actual impression of its stance and wider rack.
Silver wheels would be better but not as a low rider.

Hi.

Unfortunately, the spy pics I have are not of high quality enough to do a proper render... The low riding is purely intentional on my part to give the car a meaner look ;-)

For a little fun, maybe take the exaggerated elements that are similar to this and reign them in just a little and add the kidney finish and styling for good measure?
