Connected App issues

Figured I would start a thread for this since I'm having my first issue or I might be doing something wrong I'm not sure.

The connected app does not seem to give me the option to grant access to my calendar. It was there before working on my F30.

I am not sure what is missing on your settings. I did the IOS 10 update and went through all the connected drive apps and they still work. Waiting on the update for the linked Gopro and Mlaptimer app....advertised a few months ago.

I can access my calendars BUT the thing does not look at iCloud calendars which I exclusively use, so that calendar function of the connected driver is WORTHLESS to me.

I spoke with the BMW genius people about it the second week I had the car but no update yet. They understood the issue with iCloud calendars vs the on-phone calendars and hoped to have a fix.

The email app also has difficulty with various providers so not very useful, especially since you have to enter your password every time you want to use it. I am sure the dealer would spend time looking at my email while they change the oil, so I am so glad the thing does not remember my password nor offer the option to remember the password! D'ooh!!!

Hope you can figure it out!

Mike

Go to settings on your iPhone then privacy then calendars and make sure connected is switched on

Looks like the app itself has to request permission. Might be something new on iPhone 7 and/or iOS 10

It worked before with my F30. The app will pop up and say leave in 30mins to get to your appointment on time and the notification would come on my Apple Watch too.

Ok in this case go to settings> general>restrictions>privacy and allow changes. Make sure that your calendar is switched on under allow!

The calendars which are native to the iPhone ("on my iPhone") work fine, but the calendars which are synced with iCloud (to my computer's and iPad) don't show up on the list of calendars I can choose to have the car display.

I am sure many users use the iCloud calendars since the ability to view/edit/archive calendars on an imac is a powerful tool.

This is a BMW oversight.. I think at least one programer at BMW uses the iCloud synced calendars. I share many with my wife for coordinating home life, and with my PA to coordinate my work flow. Having my car show me my calendar is certainly not mission critical! But if BMW is going to have an app, they need to get their head out of their ()*&)*(& and do it correctly. My 2 cents.

I ended up deleting the app and reinstalling and everything now works.

I've found BMW's software to be somewhat buggy so far in the M2:

-iDrive screen showed "no signal" like it was disconnect from the input. Car on/off cleared it.
-Speakers in drivers side door stopped worked. Car on/off cleared it.
-Spotify app is spotty sometimes with idrive control
-Bluetooth is a little spotty as well

iphone 6 with iOS10.

iCloud calendars definitely work. I actually selected don't allow on my phone when carplay asked for access to calendars. That didn't even stop it from working. I guess its more "guidelines" than a security boundary. Apple embraces the 'pirates code' security model.

So you deleted the app on your iPhone and in the car also? then reinstalled?

you have the newer version with Car Play, so may be that is the difference.

I looked again, my iCloud link calendars are there but no data is populating the car's view. I had placed data in the On iPhone Calendar before and those appointments showed up.

I think it is because I have so much data (years) on my iCloud calendars....probably populating the data form 7 years ago first ....so If I go for a very long drive it may fill in today!

Yep. The speaker and idrive screen issue only happened once so not gonna bother taking the car in for it yet. I think they're all just related to buggy new release software.

Ah, the good old fashion Windoz support options...

1. Try Ctrl + Alt + Delete

Oh that didn't work

2. Reboot

Oh, that didn't work

3. Reinstall

I have Apple CarPlay so things may be different.

Today, I forget the exact menus but I think it was... Menu | Communications | Phone | Settings (I'll double check later and update) I had to deselect Apple CarPlay and select BMW Connect that then showed M Laptimer in the list of Apps in it's own section above the other apps. In the BMW Connected app it shows the GoPro app but it does not show in the car, yet.

I did reinstall and selected just ONE iCloud calendar, and it did not show any events on the car's display. I think it may be because I have 10 years of events back logged
