windshield crack ... from heat? no visible external damage?
(EDIT - i did find a small impact point
it was located below the windshield wiper blade) i started searching for f30 windshield crack but get tons of hits and they are almost all the result of a rock hitting the windshield has anyone seen mention of the windshield cracking without external force exerted on the glass? maybe from the heat? cold/hot temperature change? i think the high heat and direct sunlight may be responsible for this woke up in the morning, car was parked outside a hotel overnight crack was about 7 inches long i don't see any rock chips i didn't hit any bumps or curbs there's no damage to the hood or roof or any other body panel later in the day, after leaving the car parked outside longer, the crack is now about 12-13 inches long taking it to the dealer and going to push it as a manufacturing or installation defect and see if i can get it replaced under warranty

Yeah, I'm pretty sure heat can't cause something like that. OEM glass, especially windshields, are battle tested (heat, cold, etc.). 1st line of defense to a driver...

Not covered under warranty, but you do have glass insurance, don't you?

Quote:
dealer quote, charging FIVE hours of labor, is $2047 glass replacement companies through my insurance $710 with BMW original parts, only about $50 cheaper if using aftermarket glass just paying cash to a glass replacement guy (referred to me by a bodyshop i use) is about $300ish for aftermarket, around $600 with BMW parts i may just pay out of pocket and go aftermarket as that will cost less than the $500 deductible
