speaker polarity

Hi

I wondered it anyone could hlep me out on a query I have around speaker connector polarity.

I posted my original query on the f10 site but I've had no responses.

Take a 9V or 12V battery and using wire connect it to the speaker briefly (don't leave it connected). If the speaker moves outward, then the side you have the positive lead connected to is your positive connection. If the speaker moves inwards, you have the polarity reversed.

12v into a 2 ohm driver (not unusual with auto sound) is 70 watts, which can cook a voice coil. It's best to test autosound drivers with a 1.5v battery.

Potentially if the battery has enough amperage. That's why I said touch it to the speaker briefly. Or use a 9V battery which has less than 1 amp.

I agree, you only need to touch the terminals briefly for a split second to see what direction the woofer goes. The voice coil on a typical woofer will not get hot whatsoever.
