Exclamation Known Bluetooth Issue (Crackling, Random Disconnects) iPhone / Samsung on BMW's

Recently, I've had random disconnects and bluetooth crackling when connected to either of my BMW vehicles (2016 X5 and 2015 335).

I've done everything - unpaired/re-paired, reset network settings on the iPhone, reloaded my iPhone - does not resolve it.

Sometimes it'll be perfectly fine, very random.

These issues ONLY happen when on a call or Siri - if you are streaming audio via Bluetooth it works fine.

After speaking to my BMW SA, he said he's been getting several reports on this and BMWNA is aware of this - NO RESOLUTION YET. Discussions happening at corporate and Apple, but this seems to be also happening on Samsung phones too according to my SA!

It seems to be related to after 9.3x or 10 iOS code.

Who else is having this issue and are you aware of any workarounds?

One other thing to point out - other bluetooth devices work perfectly fine. It is correlated to the BMW Bluetooth system and iPhones.

Have you checked to see if your software is current?

I have a 15 335i and don't have any problems.

I have an iPhone6 with iOS 10 if it helps.

Yes, both vehicles are up to date.

We have 15 335 and a 16 X5, experience the issue in both cars.

I have a 2016 340i (April Build) with a Nexus 6P currently running Nougat and previously Marshmellow. No issues with my bluetooth with my phone or my wife's Samsung Galaxy S7.

Been having this issue all day. First "pair" with iPhone 7 seemed to work, but it only held the Bluetooth connection for a few minutes before freezing. Since then I've turned Bluetooth off, had the car and the phone "forget this device," re-started just about everything and have the same issue. It even goes as far as freezing the display ('14 435i) on the song that's suppose to be playing or prohibiting me from selecting/de-selecting the Bluetooth check mark box. When I look to see the Bluetooth devices in settings it shows me devices in OTHER CARS on the road; unless the iPhone 7 comes preloaded with an "Alpine CD Changer"

You mention Samsung in your thread title but only discuss iPhones as your experience.

I have no serious issues with my Galaxy S7 with my previous MY14 335 or my current MY16 535. However, it's Bluetooth and once in a while messes up requiring a phone reboot or toggling off/on of cars BT. Rare, but once in a while.

The only perfect wireless technology has yet to be invented.

I've used Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 extensively with my M235i and 340i and haven't noticed anything wrong. No disconnects or anything.

Correct - this is what my SA told me, he stated he had a few reports of Samsung phones having the same problem.

That's likely because there's many more Samsung androids in the wild as compared to other brands.

I'm having the same issue with my iPhone 7 on my15 335i.

I had an iPhone 6s on iOS 10 with no issue and since I got the 7 Bluetooth audio has been a massive pain in the ass.

It disconnects on the second song and freezes the display.

I've tried un-pairing both, test all settings on the phone, restored iPhone 7, installed the newest update from w to the car and ios 10.01 and still it doesn't work correctly.

I called Bmw today and they said they've been getting many reports of iPhone 7 Bluetooth issues.

My Samsung Galaxy 5 just got the newest update and it's been working great just like before.
So, no issues with my Samsung and my 340i for me.

no issues with the Motorola XT1585 and 2015 335i NBT system with tech pkg.

I bet apple did something in the BT to "enhance" their products in 10.x

Try upgrading to 10.0.2.
