Cheapish Insurance Rates?

If you have seen some of my other posts, you'll know that I'm less than a month old as far as owning a BMW.

Before my '13 335i, I had a '14 Scion tC (huge change, I know hahaha). The most surprising thing is that since 3-series owners tend to be more grown up, my insurance rate actually dropped when I got into an MSRP 58,000 luxury sedan vs my 22,000 hatchback, and a gain of RWD and 120~ horsepower.

I think that's just silly.

Compared to other cars that you have/current own, how does your 3 series stack, insurance-wise?

I traded in a 2009 Prius ($25k) for a 2013 AH3 ($65k) and my rates went down.

I've yet to figure that one out.

Here's another weird one; the M4's insurance is cheaper than the 335/340 and M3.

Could it be that the M4 are rare so there is little historic records of theft or accidents therefore making the insurance risk lower for the underwriters?

Generally, from what I'm told by insurance brokers is that cheaper cars hold higher risks of damage as the owners care less about them

Mine went up slightly when changing from 08 135i to 16 340i. But I'm almost 40 and live in a small town, so risk is pretty low all around.

Insurance costs tend to go up on cars that kids buy and crash. I had insurance cost increases each of the last three years that I owned my Acura RSX-S because they were getting cheap enough (2009 through 2012) for kids to buy them used (they went out of production in 2006, after all) and then torque and under-steer themselves into trees, walls, pokemon, and other cars a bunch (I really don't miss the torque-steer of that car...not even a little). I'm still paying less per month than I was in the last 3 or 4 years of owning that car.

And, yes, the tC would qualify as being easily bought for not a ton of money used, and I see them being driven well past their capabilities a lot around here.

Insurance rates depend heavily on your geographic location, repair costs, number of accidents involving your car make/model and other factors. My car insurance rates on both of our BMWs went down significantly when we moved from Central TX to Southeast NC.
