maintenance plan feedback
I have not seen much discussion about maintenance plans--forgive me if I missed it. I even did a search and only got warranty related threads.
My question is--what do you think about the prepaid maintenance plans? Any personal experiences to share about maintenance cost? I had so many problems with my E92 but not much with this F32. I have a 2014 model and today I got the maintenance plan that takes me out to 7yrs/125K miles for $2900. I already had the extended warranty for 7yrs/100k. BTW I found out today that for 2017 they reduced the bumper to bumper warranty from 4yrs/50k miles to 3/36k! YIKES |

What's included in that extended maintenance contract and how much do you drive per year? $2900 can go a long way at independent mechanic.

Everything. It extends the bumper to bumper warranty. I guess my alarm bells went off when my colleague told me that to change the spark plugs in their 328 it was $900

I would never get pre-paid maintenance. First, I have a highly trusted local mechanic. Second, I don't see the point in pre-paying; maybe there's some discount. I can't imagine it's that much. |

That's extended warranty, not maintenance. Here's a description of factory 4/50 maintenance program.
Assuming the extended program is the same but longer, the truly expensive items are rotors and pads. Let's assume you drive a lot and you'll reach 125k within 7yr limit. That's 75k miles over factory 4/50 limit. In 75k you might do two full brake services (rotors, pads, fluid), ~7 oil changes, 1-2 spark plug services, wipers, cabin filter every 12 months. You might break $2900 with all that at dealer prices. I can't imagine spark plug service alone being $900 at independent mechanic. The plugs are $100, coils are $250 - $350 in parts. $550 for labor seems rather steep, I'll ask my SA next week. |

They reduced the maintenance plan mileage and term, not the bumper to bumper warranty. I think your a bit confused about the two policies. Even if you had the maintenance plan and no bumper to bumper warranty, you still would have to come out of pocket for repairs. The extended warranty is what you want if you are concerned about future problems. The maint. plan is just brakes, oil, and other wearable parts which don't necessarily impact reliability directly. |

I mistakenly said 'warranty' instead of 'maintenance' the important thing is I have BOTH. Warranty 7/100 and maintenance 7/125. The last car I had had to have the brakes done at 50,000 miles and you can get up to three of those by 125k. I put the maintenance on a zero interest credit card for 21 months! But we shall see if the maintenance costs surpass what I paid
