I miss comfort access and HUD

I still have those amazing options on my 328i, but right now my wife and I are in Hawaii and we are renting an X5. As you might guess, X5 rentals are not fully equipped so there is no comfort access or HUD on our rental.

It's my first time with an X5 other than a short test drive. Really nice vehicle. But, I find myself trying to get in by just putting my hand on the door handle and nothing happens. I have to reach in my pocket and find the FOB, then find the button that says unlock, and then I have to actually press that button. I'm so exhausted after that complex series of events just to get into the car that I barely have any energy left for driving. And then.....

I'm driving down the road and wondering how fast I am going. I go to look in the windshield where the the speed should be displayed and nothing! I actually have to look down to the instrument cluster and try to find the speedometer and then figure out how fast I am going on that old fashion analog scale. What a pain!

Kidding aside: The X5 is a great car and we are enjoying it very much. The lack of comfort access, HUD, and HK remind me why I happily paid extra for those options on my 328i. Now that I've driven a BMW without them, these features are now on my must have list for next time.

Garage List
Many addictions begin in just this manner...I'm also hooked on the CA, HUD, and HK fixes.

At this point I think your best course of action is to light the X5 on fire and just fly back home.

"Family vacation in Hawaii ruined as rental luxury SUV forces couple to use key fob to unlock doors. The situation worsened when said couple had to repeatedly avert eyes from winding road to the SUV's antique gauges to confirm speed was, indeed, 25 MPH on the road to Hana. Stay tuned for updates."

I love the heads up display and I love it when using the navigation even more. I wish there was more sport display in the HUD though. Like a virtual tach or shift indicator along with speed.

There's a lot of room for it to be even more awesome on the G20
