Car mat Velcro

Velcro pad comes off from car mats, tried sticking back on, doesn't work keep sliding forward , especially since I have a 6mt, went to dealer on a sat they took pictures and mgr will get back to me. I assume because there classing it as wear and tear, but this is a safety factor. Car is 2 yrs old 40k, do I have a good success rate of being covered?the pads on the mats do not come separate.

Just buy another set of mats from the dozen or so suppliers that produce them. BavAuto, GetBMWParts, and other dot coms - or even from your dealership. It's not that big of an expense - maybe $100 at most? If nothing else, they ought to replace as a "goodwill" gesture or at least give you a 50% discount.

When this happened on my E90, I bought 2" wide velcro straps, and glued two rows of it across the width of the mat. One, you don't have to be picky about having it lined up "just so" for the velcro, and two, it distributes the stress across the entire glued area. Cost about $8 in stuff at Home Depot. And didn't have to waste time at the dealer.

My driver's side mat began to "shed". There was a spot where the pile just came off, about the size of a quarter.
Dealer replaced mat as a warranty issue 2 days ago after ordering mat, no issue at all.

The point is it's a safety factor, and 100$ is a lot to me, the mat is not worn out , it's a flaw. I detail car every weekend, every time I shift its starts to move forward

Can you pull off the stock velcro? If so, get some hobbyking blue velcro it's got super grip in the r/c world. Use alcohol to clean the spot on the mat, let dry and then apply.

The home depot/wallyworld stuff is sad stuff in comparison.

I agree to push the "safety" argument, and how disappointed you are in the BMW quality -- how quickly it wore out. You expect more from BMW.

And if that fails, try this. It would seem that you could easily replace the velcro piece, and use some type of glue to keep it in place.

You won't need glue to keep the HK stuff in place. That's why it's the unicorn, aka blue velcro in the hobby world. I use about 1"x1" piece to keep a camera on rigs that go 60+ mph.

You will need to prep the surface before applying it. This stuff is like nothing I could ever find in local stores.

Yeah, their website is annoying.

i have the all weather mats. Got them on ebay via a new jersey dealership. I was cleaning the interior the other day and when i went to pick up the mats they came right out. The glue that holds the velcro pad to the mat literally melted. I know its been hot this summer but cmon.... really?

im not too too concerned as I dont notice a whole lot of movement when i'm driving, But for the other poster who has a 6MT i feel for ya. I can see how that can get annoying and also dangerous

After 3 1/2 years in my 2013 335i, I've not had any problem with the velcro coming loose. But then, I don't pull them out once a week, either. I suspect it has more to do with that than the quality of the mats. And as I mentioned earlier, there are multiple other choices from other vendors or a goodwill gesture by the dealership.

I'm beginning to wonder how I've not had several major accidents over all the years I drove cars without mats that were attached to the floor of the cars I've driven.

Also, the Weathertech mats use a "T" shaped retention hook for their product, both the mat and the liners. This is per Weathertech CSR.

I have this same problem, I'm going to try getting it replaced at the dealership on my next visit.

Onto drivers side the velcro came off the mat after 15 months and was totally twisted so it was impossible to realign with the pad. Car was within warranty and was changed within the period, no problem at all.

I may have to try that out on my cars that have issues with the floor mats not staying in place.

They do, but even without any attachment they won't move about because they're precisely molded to fit the foot well. Add in the superior protection they give because they cover the sides of the foot well as well as the floor and I won't use anything else.

That people are fretting over worn Velcro on car mats says volumes about the quality of Bimmers, and most newer cars. Remember when we changed the points and plugs every 12k miles, and went through alternators, water pumps, radiators, power window and door lock parts (if we were lucky enough to have them) and various other parts on a routine basis? I have 9k on my. 340i XDrive, and it has not needed any service.

True.. F3x's are surprisingly reliable.. I never expected to drive 55K miles in my 435i to only have A. the floor mat velcro pads go bad (same as OP) and B. the upper bolsters of the leather requiring replacement (wasn't bad, just wasn't happy with the slight wear). In my e92 I was in over $5,000 of warranty coverage by this mileage.

The floor mats with the Velcro adhesive are a poor design choice. The glue becomes soft at high temps and causes failure.

The design should have stitched the Velcro on.

I fixed mine just now by drilling 8 holes and putting tiny black ty-wraps that are almost invisible on the black mat.
