Good tuning Shop for 228i in SoCal?

Hey everyone,

I'm moving down to Southern California (Santa Monica) in a couple of days and I was wondering if any of you knew about any good shops that have worked with and tuned the n20 engine. I really want good professional help and guidance.

Thanks,
Nick

Yes! Avus Autosport Inc. in Glendale. I would have been much more reluctant to mod my car to the extent I have without the expertise, trustworthiness and enthusiasm of Avus' master technicians and front office staff. I don't think there is a better specialist BMW tuner shop anywhere on the West Coast.

Ask for Amir or Andrew.

I just spoke to Amir about something else and told him that he may get a call from a fellow N26 owner. There aren't too many of us. I don't know where you are moving from but it's worth being aware of CA's emissions regs if you want to stay legal. You *can* tune your SULEV engine aggressively enough for a really significant performance bump on the street (racing is a different matter) but there are limitations so going over your options with experts is beneficial. Also, the limited options for aggressive engine tuning make quality suspension and (catback) exhaust mods all the more important. Performance springs are expensive if you do not install them yourself but getting really good ones, in our situation with the N26, is really worthwhile; this mod has had the biggest influence on the car's driving dynamics for me. My S1 tune is great but I very much doubt that we will see street-legal S2 (CAI), S3 (intercooler) or big turbo tunes for this engine, so what I'm saying is that with limited options it makes sense to get the highest quality.

As Barry mentioned, AVUS has a great reputation for BMW owners. Depending on what you are looking for, there are other local/not too far options as well.

Welcome to SoCal

I actually have the n20 engine, I have the regular 228i m sport not the SULEV. I'm moving from the Bay Area (right outside of SF) . Thanks for calling and letting him know I might stop by! I'll probably end up going there later this week.

Ok. Mention my name if you like, it probably won't do any harm. Probably.

If you are just looking to go bolt on to your car, stick with AVUS as Barry suggested. If you're looking for flash tunes, ...GSR Technik and Mission Performance are 'fairly' local...(Mission is in Rancho Cucamonga I think and GSR is in Mission Viejo. I won't go into who's better (my tag shows my allegiance) but they are the 2 closest options I believe.

Thanks for the info - very encouraging. Less and less second thoughts about picking the 228 over the 235 - can't 'add lightness' to the 6 to keep up with this.
