My new 2017 340i

Just picked up my new 2017 340i. Love the car all together and feels much better than my previous F30. The wireless charging option rocks. Has all options except active cruise control and self parking.

Can't wait to install the clear bra and 3m tint.

Looks great, I just picked up an almost identical 2016 version of this car but with the Coral Red. Good call with taking the Track Handling package, those wheels look great.

Can you share some impressions or pics of iDrive 5.0? Is CarPlay on the car yet?

The new Idrive is faster and mostly GUI cosmetic changes. They added one USB port right under the AC controls. Dealer told me CarPlay will be a free update in November.

Carplay, free update?

Did you pay for the option? Sept+ builds are paying for Carplay (which is absolutely ridiculous that BMW is charging for it in the first place). Looks like F30 version of iDrive 5 is mostly root menu GUI changes.

The touch interface seems to be an important piece of iDrive 5.x but it's curiously missing from the F3x cars..

Curious about the added USB port, is it high current to charge modern phones? BMW has been missing the boat on 2A+ USB ports.

BMW has said Carplay will be available as a dealer retrofit for July - August builds. It's as simple as loading the new Istep level and probably an FSC code. Basically, all in software.

Is there any specific use that that USB is meant to be for? Did they remove one from somewhere else? Seems odd that they'd just toss in a new USB port randomly

My 2014 335i charges my iPhone 6 and my iPad Air as fast as a wall plug:..much more robust than any car I have owned or do own. I don't understand why people are complaining about it.

Congrats I just got the same car except in Estoril Blue. How do you feel about the 398 wheels? I'm torn on whether I will replace them with something else and use them as winter wheels. Love the MPSS though!

Looks great. The 398m really hides the brake dust well. The regular silver wheels will turn into Ferric Grey in a week anyways.

100% agreed. The thing charges quick. Hopefully it isn't too quick to negatively affect the phone.
