Most axles you see for sale, even the ones from the dealer are OEM reman'd.
The issue with the aftermarket axles is not so much the bearings, it's the boots. They always tear within a few hundred miles or less. Then the bearings go shortly after. I went with a Cardone reman'd axle but rebooted it with OEM boots/grease right off the bat. Been fine for the past 1000 miles or so. For $80 (+ core) plus another $100 or so for the boot kits, its worth a shot. |

I recommend OEM for axles.

Well knock on wood I went with a DSS reman'd LF axle last year and so far so good. Boots in good shape, maybe 4-5k miles on the axle and one very harsh winter. It was approx $125 thru Bavauto, whereas reman'd OEM was like $800, which is insane.
I kept the old axle and if the new one goes bad or boots tear I'll jut disassemble and put a new boot kit on the best one if it looks good. Though I think the OEM is toast...the boot ripped on it after 40k miles lost all grease and I ran it for a while before I saw what had happened. So even OEM is not immune to failure. Frankly though for $125 might as well just get another one. You can buy quite a few for $800. Last edited by ajsalida; 08-10-2016 at 03:25 PM.. |
