BMW switched engine oils again
Manufacturer is still Shell, but now they are stocking 0W-30 with the twin power turbo label as of sometime in July. I get oil from my local dealer because its so cheap so I was quite surprised when I heard the news as during my last oil change I picked up the 5W-30.
The dealer had no more 5W-30 so I ended up going with the new weight. I'll give it a try. Apparently they are stocking different weights for some of the newer cars and 2 different weights for the diesel cars, one for pre-2016 and one for new diesels. Don't want to start an oil debate, run whatever oil you want, but just passing some info along. |

Weird, wonder if it is an intentional switch or if your dealer just is out of the other weight?
I have always run the OEM oil, but my next change I think I might switch to Motul as I don't use the car in cold temps so don't need 0W.

It costs me $60 for 7 quarts and filter. This time I picked up 9 just in case of consumption.
Sorry, should have clarified in the original post, the dealer said they won't be stocking 5W-30 anymore. I'm gonna see how this goes as I also debated using Motul but it's pricey. |

Yeah I'm switching to 5w40 next oil change, going to try liqui moly. Found an authorized retailer near me that I didn't know existed not too long ago, so don't have to worry about shipping and everything is usually same or next day.

BMW changed their testing procedures. The new formulation of Mobil 1 0-40 no longer meets the BMW LL-01 standard. Whether that means anything is open to debate.

However, Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 no longer carries BMW LL-01, due to changes in BMW’s testing requirement. |

3 quarts of Redline 0w-30 and 3 quarts of Redline 0w-40 appear to be a good combo FYI

Can anyone else confirm 5w30 is no longer being applied by all dealers?
