SOS message, Radio not working, Key FOB not working...Help!
Hello,
I have a 2006 330i and recently came across a few problems. After work, I went to start my car and not sure if I released the brake pedal too soon or what happened, but it didn't start. Tried again and it started right away, but after about 5 seconds an SOS message came on the display(looked like a sword with an SOS message) and I noticed the radio didn't work either(no display). It doesn't have iDrive, just the regular single CD stereo, but it does have bluetooth. I made sure that it wasn't turned off by hitting the volume button, also held it down for a while to see if that would reset it, still nothing. I then disconnected the battery, both negative and positive and left it off for about 20 minutes or so, reconnected and same problem...no radio with no display and the SOS message. I do have sound because if I leave the seat belt off, I get the "ding" message that I don't have my seatbelt on. If I press the eject on the CD, it will eject and go back in, but doesn't play the CD. So, I'm getting power and looked at the fuses for the radio and they all seemed good. I did recently(about a month ago) change my battery(it died) to the Wal-mart MAXX H8 battery that people talked about on this forum but I haven't registered it yet. Could that be the issue? Anyone else see this? I also heard that the TCU sometimes has problems, could that be it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.....Also, just recently my FOB stopped working, can't open or close my doors with the buttons, but I can use the center button inside the car and it will lock and unlock the doors. Thanks... Gene |

Thank you for the response, do not have comfort access. Was going to stop at Advanced Auto and have them check the battery. Was hoping that with these symptoms others might have seen the same thing.

I did open the trunk and saw the TCU and whatever sits next to it, and didn't seem to have any moisture/water. I also checked where I believe the amp is and didn't have any moisture/water.

Do you have the Logic 7 stereo option? If so, there has been a break in the car's fiber optic network.

The warning chimes are played back by the gauge cluster when you don't have iDrive, so that's why the seatbelt warning still works.

UPDATE: I think I have the logic 7 stereo, it has a speaker on the dash between the two front seats. But, I left work yesterday and the clock was showing dim on the console(or seemed dim), I was able to turn on the radio and not getting the SOS message any more. So, not sure why all of a sudden it started to work, but I'll take it. Hopefully it won't happen again, but really strange, and it seems the pixels got brighter now. Does this seem like the radio is going out, TCU problems??
Thanks.... Gene |
