Gold Heat Wrap - Anyone use this w/ results?
While at the AMS 15th Anniversary party (yes, home of some of the fastest GTR's, Evo's and R8's), I noticed that many of their high power GTRs and R8's had gold wrapped heat tape on many of the parts in the engine bay. Has anyone on here used it for the same and had actual results - beyond just blinging out their engine bay?

Use it on my 335i with the single top mount. Prior to using it, due to how close the A/C lines are to the turbo and hotparts, the A/C hardly worked because the lines would get hot. I wrapped all the A/C lines in the gold wrap, and now the A/C works perfectly fine. I also wrapped a lot of other parts near it such as the valve cover. It does work as it just reflects heat.

I picked it up to avoid destroying the clear coat and inevitably the paint of a CF hood. Placed it around the area of my turbo housing and a bit further back into the up/dp area. Seems to be doing quite well. I can notice the diff in temp just by placing my hand in multiple spots on the hood. Not very scientific, but I suppose I could get my temp gun out tonight after work and give you some after only reference points.. Anyone with a ST around me I could use as a comparison as well :P
I also put some on my ww neck as it was melting (surprise surprise no longer melting).. on a cp i was installing and on the valve cover shield which comes into direct contact with the up/down pipe.. Have not had any issues. Regarding the gold vs cool tape.. Be careful how you interpret the temps.. The gold is supposed to be better at reflecting the heat and up to a continuous operating temp of 850 F.. The cool tape can handle up to 400 F direct contact and 2000 radiant heat. So your need may vary here. You'd need to ask someone who has used both to really get a better feel for the necessary applications. I used gold for my needs.
