Weekend Exercise: 6466 335xi Pulls

Updates for my buddy Matt's car have been far and few between but that is because most of the work has been done and the car is simply being enjoyed and driven now that he is back in the country for the summer, sort of; he still travels a bunch but that works out VERY well for me as I get to use his car while my E61 is undergoing it's engine swap, trans swap, and drivetrain swap.

Matt's Build Log: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1196303

My E61 Build Log: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1224707

The latest additions to Matt's build were a Spec 3+ clutch and a oil change/swap to Rotella 5w-40. The car is tuned with a JB4 and to preserve the front drivetrain 1st is limited to 15psi, 2nd is 23psi, and 3rd+ is 26psi. IATs can get high since this is a bottom mount FFTEC kit but oil temps will only peak their head above 240F after hard pulls like this, normal and spirited driving show 23XF temps 90% of the time.

This thing really needs M3 suspension components the oem stuff feels all "wibbly nibbly" with all the g forces from the power and R888s.

Hard to accurately capture the awesome sound of the Filthy Habits Fabrication Exhaust, it has a very smooth, high pitched, almost trumpet sounding note, very 2JZish.

I see youre taking it easy on the shifts which will definitely help the drivetrain.

Got to love the xi and it's additional traction without running drags.

Well so far, the car is driven responsibly knowing that there is a ton of power which is asking a lot of the drivetrain. The car has never been launched and as stated above boost is limited in lower gears, and honestly the turbo lag of the ST helps this as well as once you get the full-beans you are already up to a decent speed and the boost comes in pretty progressively.

There is a slightly wobble sometimes that might be a tired front CV joint but it isn't consistent which is odd. The brakes have also offered some wobble due to them being the ST Trophy kit and comes with VERY aggressive pads which create uneven pad distribution on the rotor in the "easy" driving of a DD application. I bought some Posi Quiet pads of a more mild compound but have not yet installed them.

Honestly that is as fast as it can shift, even since the clutch install the shifter has been VERY notchy and shifting quickly/smoothly has been much more difficult, almost like the CDV was reinstalled or something. I notice shifting is harder underload but the trans and diff have oem bushings/mounts so I attribute that to the drivetrain torquing under load.

Do you mind editing your post and removing the videos and picture from your quote, it will help keep the thread uncluttered, thanks.

Never been to a track, launching the car would likely break something in the front drivetrain or you would have to launch it easy enough that the 1/4 times wouldn't accurately showcase the true performance.

I am sure IF the drivetrain could hold the power that the car has great potential with AWD and R888s but it isn't worth the risk to find out. As people continue to do AWD-RWD conversions for reliability reasons (myself included) I can't help but think of the performance potential of the 335xi/535xi platform with a bulletproof front end.

No not that far yet, I'm reverse engineering the unit currently, but have the basic layout I want. It will take some time though!

As for the TC, it seems like those aren't too bad but the controller is too fast and strips itself out. My idea is to override the controls, so need to work on that. As for axles, I think there are options for new rear axles, and the fronts are hopefully plenty.
