Scratched Wheel/Lug Nuts
I am padantic about apperance and visible damage and so have gone as far as vinyl wrapping the whole car and glad that i did - been pelted on a number of country roads now. Anyway took the car in for a service and mentioned that a stone caught on the ceramic caliper has scoured the inside of the wheel so they said they'd look at it.
Anyway pick up the car, have a quick look at the rims and no damage and check the ceramic rotors not damaged -just checked the front left as its the one with the stone scour and i assumed the only wheel removed. Get home and thought id check the others to make sure no damage to the other rotors ( in case they removed all wheels and being safety conscious with the ceramic rotors). No damage look good but i notice that all the lug or wheel nuts are scratched. They are painted black ( factory oem ) and were flawless before i took it in. Rims are all clean. Is this unavoidable with the nuts or have they been careless? |

I think the word is "pedantic" and doesn't mean what you think it does.

Yup the newer type OEM wheel lug bolts are cheaply painted black as mine are showing silver at the edges. The bolts on my E46 are still black even after 14 years.

Hey mate, we all love our cars. I get paranoid if someone parks close to me.
But your scenario I think it is unavoidable. Two hard surfaces placed under tension while in contact will cause unavoidable damage. |

repaint them, then when you tighten, repaint them again , then when you tighten, repaint them again, then when you tighten... Just saying - ya know - there are always options and choices in life. Anyway, having them replaced |
