Hood paint damage opinion question. Advice wanted!

Hello E90 forums! Here is my situation. I have a 08 328i sport 6sp, which I have own for a few years now. It's in pretty good condition and I plan on keeping it that way. I have had a descent size scratch and a few knicks on the hood (photos attached). I took it to a reputable local paint shop for a quote on repair. They stated in appears as if the damaged had tried to been repair in the past and said that the whole hood would need to be painted, $500. I recently had the idea to wrap the hood using 3M glossy Carbon Fiber wrap quoted at $300, example photo attached. Love to hear anyone's opinion on this matter!!

That seems a reasonable price. Stone chips look like shit it painted over. So you're looking at 1/3 to 1/2 of hood being sanded down and primed. That means 3/4 or more is getting color. I would suggest going to a shop that uses Sikkens paint line. They used to be factory and their colors match great. Dupont auto refinish is currently factory mfg under the name BMW Colorsystem. So Dupont is another good choice.

Thank you for the advice, that helps quite a bit if I go the paint option. Thought on the 3M CF wrap?

I have to disagree with you on this.

Any decent auto body shop will paint the entire hood because blending new paint with old is very tricky and not worth the effort. It won't take much more effort or $ to paint the entire hood.

My best friend has been in auto body for 40 years and manages a very good shop. Trust me on this one.

What is the color of your car? IMHO, having carbon fiber body panels/wraps doesn't look good on black cars. That's just me.

Everytime I see a hood that is wrapped in CF it looks cheap. Just my opinion 2 cents.
