Crack in Windshield
Hello Friends,
Unfortunately, my car has crack in windshield which happened over night, not sure if somebody did it, found out about crack this evening. I have GEIOC Policy and not sure how to handle this with GEICO to get OEM Glass installed by dealer. Please feel free to direct me how to convince GEICO to have OEM windshield installed by Dealer Thanks |

You should have a glass deductible on your coverage with them. I just went thru this a few months ago and have geico as well. If you have their mechanical breakdown coverage the windshield is free. If you want the oem glass you should be able to file the claim and pay the glass deductible if you have one.
I just went with a non oem as I get a nice discount thru safelite and I didn't have to have any claims on my account. |

There have been a few posts about this somewhat recently...seems like the advice is to avoid the dedicated glass replacement phone number and to go to your actual agent directly. Sounds like it's not terribly hard to get OEM if you insist on it with your agent, but you won't get anywhere if you use the glass replacement line.

I have geico and went to the dealer and they installed pilkington without BMW logo. Just watch for bubbles around the rear view mirror mount. The good thing is the guy the dealer uses should know exactly what he's doing.

Just going to throw something in here. I had a cracked windshield in January and got it replaced at a third party shop referred to by my insurance company. Thank god they didn't use Pilkington because that shit pits way too easily.
Instead they used an OE spec Saint Gobain windshield with no BMW badge and my what a gigantic difference. There's next to zero pitting and the glass is a perfect fit with no leaks or whatever. No issue with the rain sensor or automatic headlights either. If you have the option do try and avoid the Pilkington glass. It's way too soft and pits far too easily. |

I went third party. I didn't go safelite or OEM. And pretty much one of the best things I did to get a better experience from driving. My 8 year old OEM glass had so many tiny chip strikes that I am happy I went with my $120 new glass w/ install deal.

If you have comprehensive insurance in NY your glass is covered with zero deductible. Call your agent and request OEM glass replacement. They are likely to tell you the OEM is extra, but most of the time it gets approved with no charge to you. My understanding you have nothing to loose as the insurance will deny claim if payment is required.

Most glass replacement businesses would much rather sell you a windshield for a huge cash discount, rather than deal with insurance companies. Last thing you want to do is make an insurance claim for a $250-400.00 windshield.

Well it's not necessarily claims raising your rates but if you ever wanted to switch insurances it will count against you, because they will just see claims filed and not necessarily what it was for or even bother to investigate what it was for.
I would say if you want the oem glass try and get the oem glass. By like myself and others are saying it really doesn't make a big difference. |

It is, it's an online claims recording that companies use almost like Carfax and such. They will list all the claims on the account and some will rate you accordingly. Even tho it's a claim that doesn't count against raising your rates, it was a claim that the company had to payout and you are deemed more of a risk compared to another driver. The road side assistance ones are the worse because people don't think twice about them.

I had to argue for around 40 min. I told the rep, I understand that you have been trained to minimize costs for your employer, but I want OEM glass, and we can go around and around if you want. Let me put my headset on. Hope you're not evaluated based on the handle time of this call. What??!! Fuyao? Fu shu mang!

I had my windshield replaced...few things:
I have full coverage on my car, so insurance covered my windshield replacement in full. I took it to safelite to do it... If you care, request OEM GLASS... Its like Pilkington glass or something... my glass is OEM and has the little BMW symbol stamped on it. If you do not REQUEST it, you will get generic glass... ... OEM glass is nothing special, you are just paying for the logo like any other "BMW part" really... however, I wanted it because if I ever resold my car, at least it has OEM glass. And, I thought with the rain sensor, I didn't want anything getting messed up. non-OEM glass is perfectly fine though, and will be what glass they put in unless you specifically request to have OEM glass put it... your insurance MIGHT balk at this at first, but if you explain to them careful, they should easily cave to provided OEM glass. good luck.

THIS!!!!
I went through hell and back over this with Safelite. Which was all involved in the damage they did to my roof rails. Had a bubble the size of a nickel in the rain sensor area. My wipers wouldn't go into high speed because of hard rain. The manager tried to tell me that they wouldn't go into high speed from the sensor. Then he tried to tell me that I had to get the sensor "calibrated" at the BMW dealership. I finally got pissed at that point and told him that I had put a 150k miles on the car, I know what my car does. They finally relented and put a new glass in that doesn't have a bubble. Wipers work like a charm now. |
