To Reuse or Not to Reuse: Flex Disc

I'm changing the entire driveshaft in my e92 328i. The local indy had an entire assembly purchased brand new from the dealer. He used it on a customers car for 25 miles but took it back out because it didn't fix the problem.

Should I purchase another guibo/flex disc? Or is it practically pointless to purchase a new one?

You do not state the miles on the current one in the car. Usually they are to be considered a wear item and if you have any significant miles on the current one on the car it might be worth swapping it out while he is in there.

It also depends on what he is charging you for what is basically a used piece. But 25 miles is nothing on a new replacement.

the driveshaft and flex disc came together brand new, so it only has 25 miles on it.

I know mine needs to be replaced, but I guess my question is: do I keep the same flex disc with 25 miles, or do I purchase another flex disc ($60) to put on this new driveshaft I'm using to replace my old one?

Basically, is the flex disc "unusable" even after immediate installation?

I don't see why you wouldn't use it. as along as there are no cracks in the rubber, I think it should be perfectly fine. If it was me, I would use it.

It's not "practically pointless" it IS pointless to buy a new guibo to replace one with 25 miles on it.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

The installation of this part doesn't destroy the disk so to answer your question NO!

I agree with this 100%. But that part was updated by BMW to an all aluminum disc with small rubber bushinngs for each bolt instead of it being all rubber.

Now it depends, 328.. Use it.

335 with mods or spirited driver, might as well get the newer design part that willl flex less under load. Then just sell this basically new one...

They actually got rid of that design. It was standard on 2010+ production cars. And ECS was saying its an upgrade for older cars.

This is the part # now

It seems like they made the rubber thicker.. Wonder why they switched back to all rubber after switching from rubber to aluminum.

I wanted that aluminum one! It's recently been discontinued also, i was looking at it a few months ago. Planning all the parts im going to replace when i do the shifter bushings. Ordering new flex disc, and center drive shaft support for when i do it.

Just install it the way it is. It came assembled new from bmw, why mess with it if it only has 25 miles on it.
