Intake Thread

I know a few folks have installed the BMS intake and that others from the M235i work (AFE, Dinin, Injen, etc). My question is what is everyone planning on getting and are there really any gains without a Flash/Tune? I know this mod is mostly aesthetics and sound, but I'd like some folks to chime in on their experiences as I've only had an Intake (Injen) on my 92 Honda Prelude which obviously wasn't FI and that was over 12 years ago.

Obviously they vary in pricing depending on the materials/branding, but I'm wondering what other M2 owner's are thinking...

We removed the bottom half of the airbox and ran the car with no filter on the dyno and saw no gains, even with our ecu flash, downpipe and intercooler installed.

I have the BMS intake. I agree it's mostly for aesthetics, and the sound. Car does feel livelier, but that's because of the DP and exhaust.

The sound...wow. May not be for everyone. But yesterday, windows up, AC full blast, and I still heard the turbo spool up

I may need to come out to Philly and hear your car in person (and stop by Fabspeed, lol).......I am really close to pulling the trigger on the Fabspeed Sport Cat and Muffler Bypass...I'm still deciding on if I want MPE or Remus or anything else. I think the Stock setup sounds great, but I want it louder! I know the Sport Cat would help with adding some noise...I want loud, but not obnoxious loud. Something that really makes me smile when going through a tunnel!! Haha.

I went with a drop in filter K&N, I like the original set up and I find it to be the most consistent in all conditions

You're welcome to hear my M235i with Sport Cat Downpipe and Muffler Bypass as well. Do stop by! We can discuss all your options and figure out what works best for you.

For all those looking to go catless yet still want to be able to see codes when running jb4. I would recommended Fabspeed's catted DP. I ran the catsim and although it could be install error(tried it 7 times with two units) it's still acting up.

Fabspeed catted or flash tune Catless is the way to go.

Thanks for the offer! I'm not sure what I want to do yet and I'm eagerly awaiting pup73's initial thoughts after living with the sport cat/muffler bypass combo for a small period of time. I think a sport cat will be in the cards, but I'm still up in the air about an exhaust system (Be it, catback, axleback, muffler bypass etc).

If car is stock or lightly modded, you will not see or notice any gains just a sweet sound

Only time you might see some gains is when the car is heavily modded and even then you will only get a couple HP over 5500 RPM

Me too! no gains with the intake anyways and i rather avoid my engine getting bogged down later or CELs that are popping up more often than not.
