Too angry to form sentences right now but wtf is going on? Does this damn tire have a fetish for nails?

3 years no flats here.
Do you live in a construction zone? Our first house was in a neighborhood just starting under construction. That place was good for a couple of flats per month, until the construction was completed. |

This is why I don't spend more than 100$ per corner on tires.
In one season, last year, I caught 7 nails , 4 FR, 2 FL, 1 RR. Usually I average about 4 a year. It does suck |

like he said. Reasons for getting flats are; its due to 90% the places you drive thru, 10% being unlucky and 0% due to PSS fetish for nails.

I get one every couple of years.
Last one was kind of bad luck. I had a slow leak, so I take her to discount tire. They dismount the tire to find out that it went through part of the side wall. Of course, they don't have my BFG tires I ran on it in stock. I tell them to throw on the spare. Then come to find because the spare was over 10 years old, they couldn't use it. Ended up needing to buy a new spare (that I never used before or since - sold the truck to a friend this year who of course hasn't needed it either). Then also had to buy a new tire. Only fortunate part is they hooked me up a bit on the cost of the spare, along with my BFG tire getting some pro-rating as well. If I had the proper tools on me I would have DIY right there, but I had nothing. |

Are the leaks all from nails? Asking since shortly after I got my car I got a set of PSS and had my rims redone. They constantly lost air. Discount Tire said that after refinishing tires there sometimes can be paint where the bead is. When the paint dries you can end up with small micro cracks that can allow air to over time leak out. Once worked on by the Discount guys my tires have been fine since. Customer for life.

Just a flesh wound guys plus they actually fixed the balancing issue the body shop messed up. Riding so smooth. After a year and a half. Went for a 12 hour drive. All is good.

Possibly. I have noticed summer tires in general tend to pick up more nails. Maybe there's something about the PSS tread pattern that helps pick them up while the stickier summer compound helps grab them in the first place.
My worst and most ironic flat was from running over a Stanley wonder bar, which is usually used to pull out nails. |

If you buy from TireRack, they now offer a free road hazard warranty for 2 years. I used the warranty on a tire that picked up a nail (too close to sidewall to repair) and they covered a complete replacement without any hassle. The warranty only covers the tire and does not cover labor for mounting and balancing.

After 20 years of driving, I have only had 1 flat tire. I'm fairly cautious of where I drive my vehicles.

Maybe you have an enemy that is placing nails in your path of travel.
But on a positive note just patch them up and you have a good couple years of tires in stock.....but you may have to move! |

I would think someone would take on the Tire Rack, right now they're kind of like Ford was in the police market, unchallenged (there was a point in time when the Crown Vic was the only RWD cop car left as Chevy exited). I'm beginning to see the "amazon effect," meaning stellar prices, stellar customer service, and somewhere along the line the prices creep up and now need to be kept honest i.e. compared/cross-shopped. If you can get Costco in a tax free state and Costco carries the tire, it's gonna be a lot cheaper (I wouldn't have Costco mount/balance on my 335i, but Nissan, Toyota, etc., why not)... |

Never nails for me. It's always potholes.
Thus, when there's damage, it's pretty much always "Well, time to replace the tire....again".
