increase in windnoise..after new windscreen
hi all
I recently had my oem windscreen replaced with a BMW Comfort Screen (by the dealer). The windnoise at around 100kmh (60mph) is noticeable now, and seems to be at the front part of the car (windscreen and forward). It's a 'buffeting' or billowing sort of noise, not a high-pitch hiss. The rubber seals around the screen seem to be tight and flush with the glass. I don't think it's coming through the sunroof, as closing the sunroof blind doesn't change the noise. Any ideas of what else to look for? Was wondering whether it could be the wiper park position being just a little too high and coming into the slipstream cheers |

I would check the cowl at the bottom of the windshield and below the cowl. The cowl trim must fit securely into a 'new' trim piece that is glued to the bottom of the windscreen. Also there is a rubber edge trim piece that runs the length of the firewall. Either of these could be loose or missing. No excuse for the dealer not doing this correctly.

robthewrench- will have a look at the cowl and see how it's been refitted. The rubber edge along the base of the 'screen seems to be sitting flush with the glass but will double check, and also will check for any other missing bits. I also feel the road noise has increased.
Is there some sort of 'damper' piece around the windscreen that they may have not replaced? dark_knight- the comfort screen is the heat-reflective optional screen. I had mine fitted by the dealer once the oem screen cracked. Supposed to keep your car cooler in summer. |

I checked and double-checked the plastic shroud/cowling at the base of the windscreen. I even took off the HVAC pollen filter housing to check underneath. All seems to be tight. I've done lots of mileage this weekend at 100kmh and the wind noise (in some travel directions) is bad. I'm guessing it varies because of prevailing winds which haven't been very high...
Any other possible sources for me to look at? I hate windnoise!!! |

Took it back to the dealer. They adjusted the sunroof so it didn't protrude at front edge. Also reinstalled the side trim pieces on the edge of the 'screen. Lowered the park position of the wipers....
But the noise is just as bad. Taping up various gaps (incl the whole 'screen edge) doesn't make a change. Is it possible that the new glass is letting sound in more? |
