Turbo Install

Hi guys,

I recently just completed a twin turbo install on jackstands with no air tools on my N54 E92, and I want to give advice, tips, and little tricks that I picked up along the way and help others avoid problems and whatnot that I ran into. My friends and I shot a few videos, this is the first of 4:

Thanks,
Max

Really looking forward to your videos. The trailer seems to be of high quality and can't wait for the complete DIY.

You guys got balls, no air tools, lift or prior install experience. Looking forward to see your work and others input to see if you took the hard or easy road toward replacement.

This is pretty cool. looking forward to the video.

however; You cant claim "no air tools used", and then be using a battery powered drill lol.
I mean, you can... but there's really no valor there

I feel the usage of "no air tools used," is to show that he is a DIY car enthusiast, and not an individual who works professionally on cars.

I've done 2 cars so far. Used air tools and jack stands. Both cars now have 6k+ on the swaps with no issues including my car as well. One of the first hexon turbo cars in the Midwest. I beleive I was his 6th customer

That doesn't make sense. Many professionals use electronic tools as well. Also, no fastener in this install is tq'd to the point where air or electricity is absolutely needed. Both can be used to speed things up considerably, though.

I removed the bumper due to an unforeseen problem with the outlet and intercooler that I will address in one of the videos

I've spent a lot of time in shops from your average private shop to Kia dealer shops to high performance shops that work on Mclarens and I have to say I have yet to find one that uses electric impact guns! Air is FAR better. When I went to the body shop to pull parts from my E46 after it was totaled, I brought my impact gun thinking it would be more than enough to remove whatever I needed, no can do. I couldn't even take off the wheels. I think mines around 80ft pounds but I'm not sure. Once the shop let me borrow their air, I was totally fine. Point is, we kept the assistance to a minimum. If something was stuck, there was no 600ft pound impact gun or air hammers to break it free. Just good old liquid wrench haha

With the problems and complications about 30 hours. I took my time and have no prior experience with the job. Now that I've done one I'm much more confident that I could bang one out with a buddy in less than 20. One of the more time consuming bits was putting the turbos back on, it's difficult to get all the hardlines in place white making sure the manifold is on all the studs while clearing the heat shield. Little things like snapped bolts add a lot of time, as then I have to spend an hour on a bolt trying to heat it up, eventually giving up and drilling it out and cleaning up the work that I did.

Sorry didn't see your original question, my bad. I will post a video explaining all of the significantly difficult parts and how to get around them in the weeks to come. Part two will be out tomorrow!

People generally don't use impacting power for tightening, rather removal of hardware. Pretty simple.
