Getting OptiCoat Pro+ done today.. Anything to look for when picking up tomorrow?

Dropped off the car last night for prep. OptiCoat Pro+ being applied today and allowed to cure until tomorrow evening.

Is there anything to look for when picking up, or any tips to maintain it properly after?

Let us know how it turns out. I would make sure you look at it on the sun and look for full coverage, I am sure if you went to a decent detailer there will be no issues. They will also instruct you how to care for it. Opticoat is a great product but don't let any coating tempt you into take shortcuts when your washing, use good technique and that is all you should need to worry about.

To properly maintain the car finish you will have to wash the car using the big red sponge and the special soap mixed with a specific quantity of water and to dry it with microfiber cloth.

Never let your dealer wash the car ! A car protected with OptiCoat Pro+ should never be normally (with soap and water) washed.

And to be honest, that is why I'm still hesitating to have the Opti-Coat Pro+ on my M2 when I'll finally receive it.

That is what the local Opti-Coat Pro Plus installer told me about how a car with Opti-Coat Pro Plus must be washed.

Honestly, I find it complicate !

After my first post of this message my installer saw my comment and he called me to say that a car with Opti-Coat Pro Plus can be normally washed with water and soap but that can cause micro-scratchs that the big red sponge and the special soap will not create. He told me that this is the reason why it recommended to use the big red sponge and the special soap but that is not absolutly mandatory.

I didn't look into opti-coat, but I did cquartz last weekend myself. What I learned is that you want to stick to a complete system. I'm sure opti-coat has soaps and sprays that go along with their product.

carpro, like others has a system that's compatible with the sealant so you're not washing off the sealant all the time.

I have Opti-Coat Pro + on the M2 and had Opti-coat on my 135i, never was i told to use a 'big red sponge', (not even sure if you are being serious or not lol) i never use a sponge of any kind on my cars as they can lead to swirl marks & scratches as they can hold in the dirt, i only ever use a microfibre wash mit and a high quality car soap, then a car specific drying towel, never had any issues with the Opti-coat.

Too much work. I'll continue to hand wax. She likes the frequent handjobs.

Good to know because I'm still not sure if I'll go with Opti-Coat Pro Plus for my M2 when I'll receive it. Originally the opti-coat installer guy told me that the best way to wash an Opti-coated car is, first to begin by rinsing the car with water to remove dirt, then use the big red sponge (no it is not a joke) with the special soap for opti-coat to wash the car small part by small part (example : wash the top and dry the top, then wash the hood then dry the hood and so on an so forth). Today he also told me that this is not absolutly mandatory and the car can be wash like any other car (as you do) but that might create micro-scratches on the car finish. The big red sponge and the special opti-coat soap is a better solution according to him but I find it complicated compared to a traditional hand car wash.

What was your 135i color ?

I did a sealant as waxing every month is way to much work. Cquartz was really easy to apply.

The 135i was Alpine White.

I like AW, I choose LBB for my M2 but AW was my second choice. It is a color that forgives lots of things including micro-scratches. I guess that normal wash with soap and water would have been more harmful with a color like Mineral Grey or Basalt Black.

I finally decided to go with Opti-Coat Pro plus for my LBB M2 and my intentions are to use both washing methods on it (the best one with the big red sponge and the opti-coat special soap and the traditional hand car wash with soap and water). I hope that LBB will have as much forgiveness for micro-scratches as AW.

How is the car washing coming along? Also what other brands did you consider for coating and what made you ultimately choose opti coat pro +?

Washing is simple after all. First I rince the whole car with a pressure washer to remove the dirt and to wash the wheels (with a regular carwash soap and wash pad). Then I use the "Optimum No Rinse Wash & Wax" with water (mixed 1/2 once for 4 LT / 1 gallon) with the big red sponge to wash the car. I wash the whole upper section (top and glasses), then the hood and the trunk, then one side and another. I use a microfiber cloth to dry the car after each section is washed. I would say that it takes me a little bit less time to wash the car compared to a "normal" wash. Note : never wash the car this way at sunshine.

I choose Opti-Coat Pro Plus based on the advises from my car detailing local shop specialist. He told me that he can offer several products but this one is the best one he can offer. So far, I'm quite happy with the result.
