Tar on soft top and window glass
I have an M235i xDrive Convertible. I went for a drive yesterday in a forested area, and a bit of clear tar dripped on my top and two of the windows. I washed my car, using BMW car shampoo. I also used BMW soft top cleaner on the top, and BMW glass cleaner on the windows. The tar is still there.
How can I clean tar (pine, I think) from the soft top and from windows? Thanks! |

Did you use the soft top cleaner on a wet top.
Is your BMW soft top cleaner also the tar remover that comes in a pump bottle ? If it is apply to dry surface and let sit for as long as possible but without drying. And then hose the product away and spot wash with warm to hot soapy water. Repeat a few times. It may take a few washes or a few attempts. Use micro fiber towels for the windows. |

Thanks for your comments and suggestions.
I sprayed the BMW soft top cleaner on a dry top, waited 3 minutes, and rubbed it with a wet sponge. I then rinsed it thoroughly. The tar was still there, but that spot on the roof no longer repels water. I sprayed the BMW glass cleaner and anti-fog on the glass and rubbed with a microfiber cloth. When I smell the cloth, it smells a bit of pine. I'm thinking that GooGone may be good for the window, but I'm very reluctant to put it on the soft top. |

Agressive rubbing is never good so don't be tempted.
Sometimes it takes a few applications and washes. Also, it may take a few tries with different products, Check out Autogeek forum and reapply a protectant. |

Thanks for that reference. Looks like I should order some RaggTopp cleaner and protectant.
In case anyone else is interested the 2 series soft top uses a top manufactured by HAARTZ: http://www.haartz.com/news/haartz-so...es-convertible. HAARTZ, the manufacturer of the top, recommends RaggTopp products to clean and protect the top: http://www.haartz.com/cleaning-guide/cloth-top-cleaning. They're available from lots of sources. |
