Plastic protection? Or film?

Hi all,

Odd question for the forum. Picked up my Feb build M4, lovely car, absolute beast, can't wait to really open it up. One odd observation on the bodywork, just in front of the rear wheel arch, seems to be a thin plastic film? On both sides of the vehicle. Rang the dealer, thought it was residual shipping protection, was informed it was in fact protection for the flared guards at the rear. Now, it doesn't look awful, but it ain't totally to my taste and seems like an odd design choice. Of course I'm being totally pedantic and picky, but these things aren't cheap and you want them to look perfect on delivery. So the question is, does your M4 have the same thin plastic protection in front of the rear wheel, where it flares or do I have a cheeky dealer?

Thanks

I've got it. I think it's meant to prevent stone chips cos of the wider arches. Pretty sure Porsche 911 etc have them too.
