Anybody know what this is? Under E92 330d Engine Cover

Just popped open my bonnet and saw this peeking out from under the engine cover. Never noticed it before, anybody know what it is?

Take it off and you'll notice even more injector noise. On my N54 the cowl tray stops most of the noise. I've had to drive with the engine cover and cowl tray off in the past and it sounded terrible!

I noticed when I removed my cover that the foam is in a right state! Has anybody bought universal stuff off Ebay and also what kind of temperature range would be needed on it?
