Has anyone made their M exhaust flaps stay open?

Has anyone done anything like the m3 mod to keep the flaps open in the m performance exhaust the whole time? is this possible?

Any downsides to this? (apart from it being louder the whole time) Its kind of annoying double tapping that button every single time i start the engine.

There's a thread on the M5 boards that shows how to use a clamp to keep it open. I did mine last week and it works good...

You can look at the valve(s) super easy without putting the car on a lift. Just get underneath and look up behind the exhaust. I used the JRC kit and could install with the car on the ground. Other than valves, there is no reason for a wore to be going into the exhaust at this point.

JRC makes a dual valve version (for every other M).

The BMS Can Flap Module should work, has more features than just keeping flaps open too

I don't have my car yet, but will try this since I will have the MPE.

Turn on the car, foot off the brake so engine doesn't start, open flaps with bluetooth remote, then unplug the wire from the solenoid flap control on each side of the exhaust. In theory it should work, flaps will be stuck in open position.

Let me know if it works.

Aaron do a version of their digital info display with a open/close valve option on it. control it via the screen or a button on the steering wheel. Works fro standard exhaust and the M performance one. Think its 200euro more for the exhaust option

I purchased this mainly to mute ASD. But also leave valves open and brighter DRL. Very happy

Interesting question. I am curious about the effects on the burble sound the valve may have. On my 35is the deactivation of the valve was also going into that direction, no need to buy a louder exhaust...

By the way, isn't the valve always fully open if switching to sport or sport+? I thought I read something like that here...

The JRC kit will keep the valves open the entire time from comfort to sport + mode. I love it because I get the grunty noise without the ridiculously jerky throttle in sport+ mode. And it does fit on the m performance exhaust as well. He's doing a big clearance sale now too. Super cheap

... or any point in purchasing ANY exhaust with a muffler ? If I understand correctly having the flaps open all the time is completely bypassing the muffler, right ? So a straight through exhaust would have the same effect while being much cheaper as no muffler or fancy controllers, as well as considerably lighter. Maybe Fabspeed Motorsport could comment on this as I'd really like confirmation and no-one has answered my previous comments on this. The reason it's important to me is I'm thinking of getting a Fabspeed muffler bypass system when I get my car.

Flaps open you still have the exhaust gases going thru the muffler, its not like you have a cutout before the muffler which would bypass the muffler.

With the Fabspeed setup you are bypassing the muffler entirely so it should sound more than just having the flaps constantly open.

My Fabspeed Muffler Bypass should be arriving next week.. will know more after installing.

Thanks El Ban ! I had thought the flaps opened on the pipe and closed the entrance to the muffler at the same time. I'd be really interested to see what you think of the Fabspeed. If you tell me what time you'll be starting up with the new exhaust I'll keep an ear open from Switzerland to see if I can hear it LOL

I will post some videos, but as always, exhaust videos usually dont reflect how they really sound in person. But I will let you know my take on it!
