Anyone know what gearbox model is fitted to my car, or how do I find out?

Stick your VIN in for best results - http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/
Assuming your build date was Aug 2005 GA6HP19Z http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E9...sion_ga6hp19z/ |

They are all ZF 6HP19 boxes. The Z probably means it's a 6HP19 modified a little to BMW requirements. IIRC it's the same box the 335i used too. I think all the 6 cylinder petrol cars used that box. It has slightly different part numbers for each model though, so maybe there are some minor differences.
What exactly are you trying to find out? |

Thanks for the info
I have an issue when at low revs the box occasionally delays down-shifting and engine almost stalls with loss of power, I originally thought this was an engine issue but with all my internet searches I can't see a conclusive engine problem. So I've shifted my searches on transmission issues. The transmission oil was changed in the last 20k, now at 85k. So thinking first try a software upgrade. I have the booked into my friendly indy for an M3 paddle and wheel retrofit so makes sense to see if they can also do a software upgrade. It seems to be occurring more regularly now, which is gutting especially now I've started to spend money on upgrades |

The software upgrade is probably worth a punt.
Autos shouldn't stall though, possible a torque converter issue? These boxes are generally pretty bullet proof so without a proper diagnostic you probably wont find a lot from searching. |

It sounds like the torque converter isn't come out of lock up and allowing the box to change down, that could be a faulty speed sensor inside the box or the incorrect fluid level. reading the codes with INPA will give you a better idea
A software upgrade may help but its unlikely to cure it. I've just had my box done as the torque converter was faulty. I would ring Ken at Transmission Technology in Knowle just outside Birmingham. He did mine on a recommendation and I don't think Ive ever met someone so knowledgeable on auto boxes. |

I have research it and logged the engine data whilst the issue occurs and it looks like for some reason the throttle blade closes even though the pedal is at 100%, can't get any more data from the Ecu to look into it further. If you do find the cause please let me know and I will do the same if I find the cause. |

The Valvetronic Motor Actuator had become sluggish, there were no error codes but there was a noticeable deterioration to the driving experience. I purchased a new sensor from worldcarparts.co.uk for £130 (CA-A2C59515105). BMW wanted £230 for the same part.
If you are experiencing a similar issue with your N52 it's worth Googling "25742810 (PUMA)", BMWs technical notification addressing the problem.
