M cars to get 4WD

So as expected M cars will go 4WD, won't be called X drive though so hopefully also won't be jacked up like a land rover

"Given this, it seems likely the next-generation M5 — which is expected to arrive next year — will be rear-wheel drive only, with a limited amount of autonomous technology. But the following generation could be drastically different."

I dont think we'll see a 4WD M car any time soon though, based on that. Possibly 4-5 years time - or longer!

Not sure.

Getting the feeling that AWD is the new must have just like ac then climate control now sat nav

Things we didn't have in the good old days but marketing decide we need and become must haves.

Not fortunate enough to have driven M3 but have read it is a bit hard to drive quickly at moment due to lack of traction so maybe AWD is the only way to improve performance now?

Article is recycled from a few months back I think. Slow news day maybe.

I'm expecting the next Gne M5 to have the option of a variant of XDrive.

I hope BMW leaves the HP wars and seriously gets into the CF wars with its inhouse CFRP manufacture and carbon core. Current M5/6CP pushes 600 HP I think, struggle at low speed for traction.

Lighter, maybe AWD and a modest power bump will be perfect. The RWD bias will need to be very carefully thought out though.
