Am i paranoid? Timing chain problems
First off i would like to say hello 😁
I wish my first post was me making my car more sexy and not a problem but it seems i have bought a lemon. I bought a 2011 320d touring 184 manual a month ago with fbmwsh and only 40k miles from a hyundai main dealer. Within a week i noticed a ticking noise which i suspected was the chain. Although hyundai didn't believe me, i took it to bmw and they confirmed that sure enough it was, i tried bmw for goodwill but because it was bought outside there network and last serviced at hyundai (just before i bought it) they wont offer anything. So hyundai got a bill from bmw for £3300. Obviously they kicked up a fuss and refused to pay but said they would have it recovered and would take it to a bmw specialist and use genuine bmw parts. I agreed to this and one week later i have my car back. However it still sounds loud not ticking like before but still way more clattery than it did compared to when i first picked it up, also it feels about 40hp down very sluggish. I will call them again tomorrow but i was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why it is so slow. There is also a whiring noise (like a really far away vacum/hoover at idle but is drowned out by the clatter of the engine from 1200rpm onwards. Tomorrow is 30 days since i bought it and am seriously tempted to return it and demand refund as it is clearly not fit for purpose, trouble is i really like the car : Sorry for the long post any advice or ideas is most welcome Regards tj |

I'd go back and let them listen to it. It shouldn't be like that...unless they swapped your petrol engine out with a diesel one??

If it's got problems it could be very costly and you already know BMW won't help so, if can get your money back, that definitely what I'd do. 320d aren't exactly thin on the ground so you should be able to pick up a good one without any problems.

You had a Friday afternoon car, don't tar all with the same brush. Good that you got a resolution though.
