M2 GTS Isn’t Going To Happen

Sorry if this has been posted.

Sorry, A BMW M2 GTS Isn’t Going To Happen
While out at the launch of the M2, we queried whether or not a hardcore GTS version of the car might happen. You won't like the answer...

When driving the car for the first time last week, our man Alex Kersten found that - despite a lot of plus points - the M2 isn’t quite the hardcore beast its 1M predecessor is. So, will it ever get any angrier? The M4 after all has its GTS version, but if the massive price jump for that car were to be replicated for the M2, it might be a tricky car to fit in the range. Sure enough, when asked about the possibility of such a car at the UK launch of the M2 last week, BMW UK quashed the idea of an ‘M2 GTS’ ever happening.

Confirming the stance, BMW UK told us this week: “while the GTS derivative of the M4 has proved very popular currently there are no plans to develop a GTS version of the M2.” And sure enough, it’s all down to cost. “The M2 is an affordable starting point for full M car ownership and any GTS option would be considerably more.”

So, there we have it. If you want a more hardcore M car, you’ll need to make the jump to the M4…

Of course they'll say this now. They don't want people holding off on buying the M2 or M4. Saying "yes, we're going to release an M2 CSL in 2 years" would be like shooting themselves in the foot.

Also, GTS ≠ CSL

See my post of February quoting a German source claiming to know that no M2 GTS is scheduled, but that the M2 CS will happen (claiming in other posts that it features the S55 engine):

Or do they just mean more tail happy?

Horse power and lap times are rational and can be quantified.

Emotions are irrational and cannot be quantified.

Hard-core belongs to the emotion side of driving and mostly to do with the feeling which might be a result of unrefined power delivery, more direct steering connection to the road, handling un-forgiveness..etc

M2 CS because 6-banger (S55 engine).

If an M2 CSL ever sees the light someday, it almost certainly will feature a 4-cyl for weight saving reasons, methinks. "L" stands for "leicht" ("light" or "lightweight"), so an M2 on a Spartan track-oriented diet, with the bare necessities serving its purpose, thus few clothes and limited on luxury gizmoes.

A good decision not to make any GTS or CS or CSL of that car.

The car would cost double the price buy an m4 GTS then!

I think the m2 is good like it is. They just need to expand the performance line with GTS goodies to make you're own GTS if you wish.

GTS front splitter.
GTS race seats.
GTS roll cage
GTS rear spoiler
GTS alcantara steering wheel.
Carbon parts like the hood and rear deck.

We already have the options of track suspension and performance brake pads for the m2

If BMW makes those GTS parts for the m2 what more do you wish?

Just make a good base car like the m2 is now. Then you can make you're car as much track worthy if you wish. This is the best option.

I am a big fan on going on track with my cars. But I will never buy a GTS and pay double for a car which has a more race parts on it. The car is so expensive because it s handmade. Even a GTS is not perfect on track.

The m2 is a perfect base car for a good price. A very good start to make you're Own GTS which will be cheaper and better then BMW handmade can give you!

BMW M2 motor Gp safety car is an m2 with GTS goodies and performance goodies Nothing more!

Im not saying it will happen. GTS or CSL.

but just remember Porsche have been telling us there wont be a Gen2 version of every GT3 the've made, only for it to be released 2 years later.

They've also said it about the Cayman GT4 but now they're hinting at it...

Correct. All data point to a M2 CSL. I didn't realize anyone was expecting a M2 GTS.

I took it to mean rawness. Consider the current 991 GT3 for example. It is faster and more powerful than its predecessors, but it's nowhere near as raw as a 996 or 997 GT3; in fact it's quite comfortable.

I guess you like your women to just lay there in bed motionless eh ?

Some guys might like a girl that's a little more ..... ummmm passionate !

Bottom line, is if you felt the 1M was" trying to kill you " then I'm glad that you received the message and got off the bucking bronco and left it for a more talented driver to play with.

I would hate to see you get " thrown "

LESS WEIGHT!

My god man , our 1Ms could go a diet also.

Plus I'll take the factory installed roll bar also.

Course lord knows it wouldn't comply to any freaking race group in the us probably including BMW Cca club racing LOL.
