muffler delete not a option?

So I have read around that muffler delete gives you a lot of drone and the sound isn't that good. Sounds kinda ricey.

Would an muffler like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E39-E38-...1Roy0L&vxp=mtr

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-F10-E39-...ZTIXNN&vxp=mtr

Increase the sound without any drone?

People don't know what drone is on these boards. Deleting mufflers will not create drone. Drone comes from running chambered type mufflers emitting an RPM/load series of harmonics through the underside of the car.

You are only increasing volume of the exhaust by running with no mufflers. This will naturally be heard in the cabin, but it is not "Drone".

This x100. I hear people whining about drone from the PE and catless downpipes. Coming from a fbo STI, the inside of my E90 is silent in comparison.

OP, muffler deletes usually don't sound good on these in my opinion. Go for a PE mod if you're worried about it sounding ricey. If you've driven loud(ish) cars in the past it will no issue in regards to noise/drone.

PE mod as in http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=739970 or buying performance exhaust?

If as in the thread, what does he do? Opens the muffler cuts our the straight pipe with holes and replaces it with solid pipe? Would this sound better than stock or muffler delete?

And it's for 335... Any idea how the sound would be on a 325?

I replaced my muffler with a vibrant resonator. I placed it where it originally goes and I still have a muffler delete, no drone and tolerable for my sensitive wife.
I am going to add 2 right beside each other, reason being, those 2 will be welded together and on each end with be a welded v-clamp. And the midpipe will have a v-clamp and the exhaust tip inlet will have a v-clamp. I will also have a separate straight pipe that has v-clamps as well, where the resonators would be. So that at my own convenience. I can go under my car. Unclamp the resonator or straight pipe and have fun or quiet days.

At my condo complex, I met another resident with an E90 2007 335i. I noticed his car has a fairly loud exhaust, but it’s not ricey loud. One day I went over to chat with him about his exhaust because I told him I have future plans to change the OEM exhaust on my 2010 E92 335i. When he said they’re straight pipes, I was a little surprised. The car is not super loud whenever I hear it go by and actually sounds pretty mean. However, I don’t know how it sounds from the inside.

When I do change the exhaust on mine, I’ll most likely go with the BMW performance exhaust. I know it won’t affect HP or performance, but I just like the sound of it from the sound and video recordings I have heard.

The drone from a muffler delete isn't that bad in my opinion (although i am currently running open headers lol). If you do get a muffler delete, then keep the resonator as this will help eliminate a lot of drone. If you listen to music or the radio when you drive, the drone most likely won't bother you anyway.

It isn't drone. But yes the exhaust is louder obviously. On the highway my car is much louder and it's a constant exhaust note for hours it's a tad annoying but you're not going to avoid that if you want a louder exhaust.

i have a muffler delete on my 330i. it really doesnt sound ricey at all, and i have gotten many complements about the sound. when i tell them its only a muffler delete theyre pretty surprised. as far as "Drone," if your cruising on the highway at around 70 to 80 mph over 3k rpms that when you will here the semi annoying humming which doesnt bother me if i play some music. otherwise no drone. sounds awesome.

Find someone with a muffler delete and ask to take a ride in the car. There are a lot of them floating around. Maybe there is a local forum member willing to meet with you. If not, go to a BMW meet. You could probably find one there.

I have 2 other videos as well. I enjoy my delete, and like the other guys have said, I don't get drone.

In my experience, you get used to the sound inside the cabin so quickly that you forget what it sounds like outside. Anytime I valet my car, or just have a friend drive in a lot, I'm like "dammit that's sexy".

Ultimately it's highly subjective.

Some love it, others hate it

One thing for sure, it is very loud

I do recommend that before you do it, make sure to drive a car that has muffler delete. Also make sure you test it on cold start because that's when it is the noisiest

Do you ever respond to threads that haven't been dead for 5 years? How do you even find them?
