Closest Current BMW To The E46?
Hey guys, I am wondering what current BMW model you guys feel imitates the iconic E46 the most in terms of size, looks, feel, weight, etc. Title says it all basically!

I owned an E46 previous to my E92. I've driven an E82, E90, E91 and E92, F30, F22 and feel of all of them, the F22 is the closest to the E46 in terms of size, styling and driving feel. When the M2 comes out, it'll be hard for me to pick between the E92 M3 and the M2.

I'm sure the E30 guys felt that way about the E36, the E36 guys feel that way about the E46 so on and so forth. Just look at all the hate we have on this forum towards the F30. This goes on with other make/models also.

I think the E46 sucks so hopefully none of them the f30 may end up the same way worse than its predeccessor except for the interior

Not true. My 335 shits on my old 330ci in every single aspect.

The two things they have in common: When they first hit the streets, they were back-ordered, folks ordered them and waited 8-10 weeks to have one in the driveway.
With the E92, I can tell you from personal experience--ZERO dealerships had an E92 for sale in October 2006. They all had two cars in their possession--a manual, and an auto, for test drives only. Both these cars turned heads. When the F coupe came out, it was like which of the 5 that we have on the lot are you interested in? Sad, but it won't be the case with the M2.... |

The 1M is what comes to mind instantly, but a M235i with an LSD & manual is a good second choice.
If you're on a budget then a E82 135i with an aftermarket LSD is pretty close. |

The E82 is much more cramped inside than the E46. I haven't driven a 1M, but based on size alone, the F22 is much more comparable to the E46.

I had my old e36 323is mt for about a week crossover after I bought my e92 335is mt, my e92 is better . This was 3+ years ago so not a true back to back (memory) but having said that the suspension feel and steering of the e36 was still very tight and fun to drive...very predictable feeling. Clutch feel was close to the same, until I removed the stupid helper spring on my 335is..NOW the clutch feels great! (Even the bmw tech thought I had an upgraded clutch) SO glad the e92 doesn't have electric steering which can't be said for the f30, the e92 is a bit softer feeling than my e36 and I'm sure from the e46, but still...the e92 imo is a more 'sophisticated' handling feeling if that makes sense, but still not scared of taking a 90* turn at 40mph+. I did the same speeds in corners on my e36, and went through 2 sets of rear wheel bearings .
But OP, are you now considering getting a used e46 instead of that 335i??
